Who made this term and where did it come from? What does it signify? I remembering dying with laughter the first time I heard it

Reer Shingaani.

Code word between them at first, then it became public.

"Markaan waa naluga dhex jiraa hee, mukulaal madow meel looga fakahaayo ma lahan!"

They've always relied on such language for survival though. Even before the war, they had all sorts of lingos between them.

Soomaali are good at nicknames, be they cad cad or the lamagoodles. I think it came about as a result of hardships endured by Bandaadiris post-civil war. Nobody likes a black cat, they bring nothing but bad omen in the form of death & destruction. They perceived them as unwanted & imposing misfortune. Being weak & the underdog, what better way at exacting some sort of revenge than by resorting to satirical name-calling? That's probably what happened.

Geed garas was a phrase Reer Marka cad cads used to refer to the non-natives. Geed garas is this really sticky & useless tree that grew on the outskirts of the city that nobody wanted.
