Kenya, Block 2A
Simba Energy has been granted a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) by the Ministry of Energy, Republic of Kenya for Block 2A, comprising 7,801.72 square kilometres in northeast Kenya.
Block 2A overlies the southern tip of the Mandera Basin while the southwest corner of the block extends into the Anza Basin. Block 2A also has excellent potential for significant oil and gas discoveries as evidenced by the following evaluation.
Source Rock
The Mandera Basin is Permo-Triassic to Tertiary in age with a sediment thickness of 10,000 meters. Potential source rock interval is mid Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous and comparable with the larger Mandera-Lugh basin in Ethiopia and Somalia.
Rock Maturity
The area of the block overlying the Mandera basin is of particular interest as the analysis of the oil from the seeps at Tarbaj although severely biodegraded indicate a source rock maturity for the Mandera basin which is well within the oil window

Gedo is the heart of the Mandera-Lugh basin with the Garbahaaray belt the most prospective part of the basin according to the US Geological surveys which have been presented. We must stabilize fast to be giving out our own license agreement and sizing tracks. Bi idni lahi kariim

Roving, don't know. I think this region is trying to sift through information which existed but become public knowledge to us just recently about our own immense prospects.

I think Gedo is an interesting region; not because I doubt the oil potential especially considering what has been found in Uganda, S.Sudan and Kenya, but the security situation of the region it is located. Unless Shabab is totally eliminated as a security threat, it will be quite difficult to initiate any commercial exploration and extraction as the pipelines and oil infrastructure are soft targets for any terrorist hit and run campaign. The same is true with the rest of Southern and Central Somalia.Voltage wrote:Roving, don't know. I doubt anyone is underestimating the security challenges but even now the line of control is secure and Al Shabaab is not even totally removed from the region. There are hardly any of the security breaches taking place in the liberated parts of Gedo that take place in other areas of Somalia. Recently there was a lot of attention devoted to a firing squad punishment in Beled-Xaawo that the governor was interviewed about on the BBC. Three Shabaab mercenaries and their driver who left Baardheere to blow up a meeting of central command in Beled-Xaawo were found out and fire squadded in the middle of the city. All three were Sade and their families were witness to the punishment reached collectively.
These guys have no more places to hide or sympathy from the population in liberated zones which is 80% of the region. They will be totally put down once Baardheere falls in the entire region.
Also, I doubt there will not be serious investments in security once Al Shabaab is totally removed from the region and an administration is grounded. Only then will oil even be thinkable to prospect for. At such a time between that stage and drilling, I doubt either the local administration or companies involved will leave shenanigans to chance.

Most of the early drilling will probably take place, when it commences, in the Western part of the region neighboring Kenya for logistical and infrastructure reasons and also because the security perimeter can be better secured with the area squeezed between Beesha's heartland and Kenya.Wed, March, 21-2012
REER BUULO XAAWO OO FAGAARE KU TOOGTEY SEDEX QOFOOD OO SHABAAB AH.
Ciidamada Dowladda KMG Soomaaliya ayaa shalay gelinkii dambe Seddex nin oo ay ku shegeen Shabaab ku toogtay bartamaha magaalada Buulo Xaawo ee Gobolka Gedo.

The pipeline business is quite risky business inherently. Unless Gedo plans to use Kenyan ports, there will always remain risk. Its unfathomable that anyone can guarantee the safety and security of hundreds of miles long pipelines carrying flammable liquid. In many ways, the prospects of commercializing the "oil" in Gedo depends on its neighboring regions and extending the security parameter throughout the whole Jubba Valley Region.
But good luck with the exploring the oil and I hope it is found and that it contributes to the development and prosperity of its people.

The good thing going for is these companies are subsidiaries of larger companies who consider it chum change to invest couple million here and there to build up something like a police and state guard as investment if the prospect is strong. Somalia and Gedo is already so far down, that once Shabaab is removed and administration set up and looks like it has public support, these companies will be more than happy to come in and build foundations for it as investment for prospecting in the region and ultimately being awarded contracts. There is a risk to come with that guardian role but I think Somalia and its recent political history is a deterrant in itself from these companies tempting fate by playing the games they play elsewhere. Say one of these larger companies through their subsidiaries invests a measly 10 mil for security purposes...it is shared interest between the company and the region without much liability on the company side while the reward is worth the risk.
We just need to get to that pivot point and I am optimistic it is tenable even soon.

Wallahi I hope these Shishkabob imbicles are eradicated ASAP. These stupid little punks are totatlly against any sort of progress or horumar. They need to be removed from the remaining districts in Gedo as soon as possible.
