Since we are reminiscing on childhood games. . .

Post by UlteriorMotive »

Does anybody remember a game called ''askar iyo tuug''?

I vaguely remember bits and pieces of the rules which included a bunch of roles (thief, policeman, king) being written on small pieces of paper which are then distributed randomly to the players. The idea is no one knows who is what.

I think there was an element of bluffing involved and may have contained the possibility of being struck with a well-timed dacas.

Anyone?

Alpha, not the the traditional western one which is another form of 'it'. It just shares a name with its Somali counterpart.

The details are significantly different. I think Beans has the right idea (though I remember it as 'king' instead of a chief).

Dhudhumishoow (hide and seek).

The girls used to hide and we boys sought them; loox hostiisa markaan ku arko waan qanjaruufan jirey kabacdina naasha ayaan qaban jirey ( I was really a kid shaxaari). My dad even paid sabeen xer to a family because naaska ayaan gabarta macalinka dusiga quraanka ka qaniiney.

I don't remember being hit during cops and robbers, the only time I played a hitting game was ciyaar bilaw.

BlackV,
It is true. I am not proud of it. The lady now lives in Canada and I dare not talk to her because our mothers remained enemies after that incident. I have paid the airline ticket for the macalin quran to go to Hajj.

I was a bad guy when I was young.
