I'm not so sure I'm ready to give thumbs up yet. They collected the taxes, but will we see them actually put this money(which belongs to Somalilanders) to good use or will it simply disapear into thin air? Thus far all major projects that have been concluded or ongoing have been funded by donor nations, none by the SL government. If anything the SL govt should do invest in restructering, arming the defense forces and also invest some of that money towards building vital infestructure.
we wait and see..

That's nothing to brag about. There are millionaires that spend that on a weekend. Uttar Pradesh, the poorest state in India has a GDP $105 billion in 2011. Walaahi Somalis are pathetic.

Abdi Ismael,
This is not the GDP, it's only the government budget for the fiscal year 2012. The total domestic product of Somaliland far exceeds this of course

Abdi you are looking at this the wrong way thats $105 billion for 200 million people inthe state of UP so GDP this would be more or less equal to somalilands gdp of $600, if it is Purchasing power parity we would be around $1500 just like Uttar Pradesh.
So you coincidently found a state just as poor as somaliland.
and this is part of a stable country that did not face mass destruction and dislocation and rebuilt itself without any major outside aid.
This is why the state budget comes in, the budget of UP per capita is higher than ours about twice the size.
it will be as if somaliland produced a buget of $300 million instead of $147.
its not that bad..
i showed you in my previous experience that we have better statistics than niger, central african republic and even Congo.
and this is for a fucked up , disorganized and unregobized state in africa that does not get much foriegn aid.

you just missed that entire post didnt you,
abdi.ismael mentioned how uttar pradesh had a gdp of $105 billion, but this is for 200 million people
and the budget of uttar pradesh is $32 billion when you change it to US dollars.
thats $160 for every person, while somalilands would be around $45 for every person.
and you are comapring 2 different states, one that is poor but highly industrialized and with highly developed infratrsucture and civil society comapred to somaliland, i think the comparison is flattering considering that we recovered from a full scale war with little aid, and we have next to no industries or infrastructure..
when we comapre Somaliland to Niger, Central African republic, Niger and Mali
its not so bad at all.

The spending money is 147 mil then their actual gdp must be somthing like 200 mil. 200 mill for an entire nation? That is beyond ridiculous.

Gurey, you are just being complacent - the biggest problem with africans. We've had 20 years of peace, so there's no excuse for the relatively shit condition of our country. A person with 200 mil would be rich (not even wealthy in my books), but a country that makes that kind of money in a year has a population only fit for zoos and should maybe consider letting a more productive race settle in the land. You can't blame this on the war, 99% of the popualtion are geeljire doing absolutely nothing except wandering around the countryside looking after a few lifestock - which is unlucrative to begin with (waxaa waxa laga bacay ancient timeskii) - instead of working in factories or starting a business or any other productive venture.
And I only used UP as an example, I don't care about GDP per capita. I am willing to increase somalis population just to increase revenue. I care about overall productivity. And it seems the gdp of that state is close to Angola's, which is an african country on the rise. Isn't that sad?
