Anyone majoring in environmental engineering/waste treatment?

The maryooley every year die in the thousands from diarrhea outbreaks because they shit on the same water supply they use for their drinking. Other times, due to poor sewage management, some of the human waste ends seeping into rivers or streams carrying them following heavy rains. year after year this happens.
