Re: AFRICA SITTING ON SEA OF GROUNDWATER RESERVES
Somalia has a lot. I noticed that our water aquifers are also where the oil is. Which one do we dig for first?

Re: AFRICA SITTING ON SEA OF GROUNDWATER RESERVES
We have a lot in Somaliland, especially around Burco.

That will likely be bought up by competing firms.

Monk,
The water
In the future, water will become the most rarest commodity.
The water

THAT UNDERGROUND WATER HAS TURN WESTERN BOSASO INTO IRRIGATED FARMLAND

Re: AFRICA SITTING ON SEA OF GROUNDWATER RESERVES
Somalia arguably has the largest underutilized natural resource anywhere in the world. We are sitting on gold mine and we don't even realize it.

Tightrope,
The problem with water in many parts of Somalia is the SALINITY. The water in Galkacyo when not desalinated is disgusting. You can't even shower with it as the soap sticks to your skin.
This presents challenges in agriculture. Eyl, Hobyo and other areas on the coast have good, soft water with little salinity that can be used for farming and drinking.

Your post reminded of how rer Gaalkacyo prepare Diger. They don't cook it with Gaalkacyo brackish because that takes forever. Instead they first desalinate the water with what's called dagaad or some such thing and then use it to cook. I use to wonder why Shaah in some somali towns/villages tasted salty. I wondered why would ppl add salt to tea. It wasn't much later I realized that they weren't adding any salt to tea but the saltiness was from the brackish water.
BTW, brackish water can be used for irrigation. Israel uses brackish water to grow tomatos, peppers and few other brackish water tolerant plants in the Negev desert. And brackish water is relatively cheap desalinate compared to seawater.
