One of the action items that the TFG has is to pass the draft constitution. This is what the donor countries are demanding, and this is a benchmark that the TFG has to finish before the selection of parliamentarians and the election of the president and the speaker of the house.

-The era of thinking based on emotions is over. The era of rational thinking has arrived. Tell us how we, Somalis, can have a government that is not suitable to US, EU, UN, AU, IGAD, and the pro-western governments in the Muslim world? Keep in mind, we have traveled on the nationalist, clannish, and religious extremist roads, and we see where that landed us.

-May I question what are the issues that people have with the draft constitution? Please list your grievances and how do you want it corrected? You should take into account the type of government that is acceptable to the donor countries who are footing the bill for the establishment of an acceptable government in Somalia

The people want constitution of the Holy God, not one made by tanzanian buffalo. We desire shariah based on justice and mercy.

   The clan mentality still rules, once people emancipate themselves from that thinking, that's when we'll be able to see their genuine contribution to the country. Clan elder says "We don't want the constitution".... his subjects will support that to the fullest  Wake up Somalia :som:

DR-YALAXOOW, give it up man. Sheekh Umul is from Lower Jubba and Middle Jubba regions of Somalia. He is from the mighty Ogaden - Mohamed Subeer, the real inhabitants of Jubba regions. You can challenge his views without bringing in who is Somali citizen and who is not.

DR YALAXOOw, Sheekh Umal did not lie about his nationality. No way Sheekh Umal would do such a thing. I can go to Kenya and obtain the Kenyan permanent residency and later on Kenyan citizenship. Keep in mind Sheekh Umal is one of the well-known Islamic scholars in Somalia. While I personally believe Somalis approve this constitution, we should also understand Somalia is a country with very opinionated people, and every one is voicing his concerns. Sheekh Umal is no different. You should also understand the grievances of the religious establishment are much different than the concerns of other Somalis: in my view, there is no clannish dimension in Sheekh Umal's warnings. For them being the carriers of the Islamic Da'wa, they are warning us what can jeapordize our hereafter and Somalia's Islamic character.

Islam is the official state religion of Somaliland, Article 5 of the Somaliland constitution states:
1. Islam is the religion of the Somaliland state, and the promotion of any religion in the territory of Somaliland, other than Islam, is prohibited.
2. The laws of the nation shall be grounded on and shall not be contrary to Islamic Sharia.
3. The state shall promote religious tenets (religious affairs) and shall fulfil Sharia principles and discourage immoral acts and reprehensible behaviour.
4. The calendar shall be the Islamic Calendar based on the hijra, and the Gregorian Calendar.[3]
