North Carolina constitutional ban on same-sex marriage

Twenty-eight states have constitutional amendments that ban gay marriage; another ten ban it by statute. Until today, North Carolina was the only state in the South did not have a constitutional ban. Republicans took over the state legislature in 2010 after 140 years of Democratic rule, setting the stage for the ban.

While the country is about evenly split on gay marriage in polls, supporters have yet to succeed at the ballot box. Statewide ballot measures on gay marriage have come up 31 times since 1998. Advocates for gay marriage lost each time.

Gay marriage will be legal in all US states by 2025.

25% of Americans supported gay marriage in 1996. In 2012, it's 50%. In 2025, it'll probably be 75%. All we know is that support for it will only grow larger by every year.

  I think this is the real story

Despite the opinion polls. 14 straight years gay marriage supporters have failed at the ballot. And 38 states already have a ban on it right now.

Look at the case of South Africa though. I remember on CNN a journalist saying that more than 70% of the South African population finds homosexuality wrong yet they are one of the few countries in the world to have full recognition of legal gay marriage.

There might be a gay marriage ban now in many states but that wont be forever. By the time we are parents and have kids, gay marriage will be as accepted by society just as interracial marriage is.

Sexy-Kitten,

Yes. In fact, you guys are very gay friendly. More so than Europeans.

Sexy-Kitten,

Behave yo self.

I don't understand gays. No one is stopping them from getting married. Just dont bring government and society into it. Go to some gay club and do what you have to do and have a party there and put a ring on it.

Why must people always bring the government into their life? That way, you can get "married" and you don't have to bring the public and government into your lives and fight some fake attack on your rights.

But no. They want to file their taxes together as a official "married couple" so they can pay less to Uncle Sam. I think that's the only benefit of having the government officially recognize your marriage. Nothing else.

I am behaved.... SEEEE!! I thought people separate state from church.

I'm all for gay people gettin married but then again I don't agree with them. So when a state passes a law for gay marriage, I'm happy for them. They know where I stand on gay marriage, I'm against it but hey... If that's truly what they want, I support their gay asses. I have gay friends btw, and they don't agree with heterosexuals so we don't understand each other... Only thing we share is our genuine friendship.

Btw, I wasn't saying "my niggas" on banning... I was talking about Fighter's statistics. :!:

I've had that debate with them on numerous of occasions. They're still gay. Nothing changed!   They say it's who they are and they aren't attracted to the opposite sex. Marka it's all good in the neighborhood. I respect them a bit more than I do bisexuals. Again, I'm not bashing. To each his own, waa iska caadi if people swing both ways too...

America's such a horrible place. Our priorities are so asinine. Why are we more concerned with prohibiting consenting adults from getting married than we are with, say, I don't know, offering some form of nationalized healthcare, or eliminating the prison-industrial complex which uses men of color as fodder, or allowing unauthorized immigrants a chance for citizenship, or offering more women better access to reproductive justice?

Nah, clearly those eeeevil gays are a great threat to the fabric of American society. Priority numero uno, that and bombing brown folk.

Xoolo.
