What are the requirements for establishing a Somali DNA bank where family members can trace each other?

I saw a man today who picked a dehydrated and confused five month old baby in 1991. The boy is now a grown man and doesn't know who his biological parents are. So many other children got separated from their families throughout Somalia's long civil war and these children and parents would benefit from such a program.

would be a good idea. but im guessing is very difficult to convince somalis to do that. they would think their dna will be used in some thing else!

Unfortunately you need a lot of initial capital, but I believe there would be a great deal of interest generated.

Hyper why would somalis think that, how many somalis would think that, and could those who think that easily be swayed? Its not right to constantly put somalis into a close-minded box.

PO and others, do you know the things that are involved for such a endeavor? I mean fully search-able database that can accept new samples.

Hyper, those looking for lost ones would submit their DNA in a heartbeat.

The other question is, do DNA banks provide results as computer files too?

farax, i am very interested in the technical aspect of it and associated cost. If we discuss and do some research today, someone else may pick it from there and start building the blocks and so forth.

what is going to prevent ppl from using the service if they are trying to find their lost siblings/children and the only shot they have is through dna?

Garac aan aabo laheyn waa ku yaryahay Somalida, teeada kale Somali aan qabiilska xafidsaneyn ama war ka heli karin waa yaryahay, xawaaldaha iyo laanta baafinta radio qarijiqood( oo u dhiganta free service DNA bank) ayuu ku fulin. Not good idea, unless it would be free service.

Even if the actual testing isnt done on site there,i think having a storage/filing facility would be a great start.
