Private companies! Telecom owners back home have deals with private Western satellite companies as business in today's world is all about $$.

Somalia had better telecommunication services than neighboring African nations that had functioning governments as early as mid 90's.

Source?

How can a country with no government have better telecommunication services than neighbouring countries? I have come to this question as I was reading about a service called M-Pesa in Kenya which allows people to send remittances and is a service launched by Safaricom, a leading telecommunications company. safari works in partnership with Vodafone and from what i gather, has shares in it thus being able to launch such a service.

It would be amazing for us to have such a service as well due to our people being majority reer baadiyo. Instead of travelling to xawaalado to the nearest village or city to ask if the money has arrives, it would be beneficial to get confirmations by text before making the journey. Or better yet, for individuals to send money back and worth with the country.

Not to derive from the topic, any sources?

Actually, you are right.

I've found this interesting report, the telecommunications chapter is quite a read.
