Somalia: Puntland forces capture pirates, in morning raid

HAFUN, Somalia May 27 2012 (Garowe Online) – Puntland’s Ministry of Security stated that Puntland Maritime Police Forces (PMPF) had apprehended 11 pirates after carrying out operations in the coastal town of Hafun, Garowe Online reports.

On Sunday morning, PMPF carried out an operation on a pirate base in the district of Hafun located in Karkaar region. The forces were led by PMPF Col. Abdirazak Dirie Farah and were accompanied by Minister of Security Khalif Issa Mudan, Puntland Police Commissioner Said Janaqaf who received intelligence that pirates were hiding in the coastal district.

There were 11 pirates that were apprehended including a senior pirate who allegedly was involved in the incident that killed 5 members of Puntland’s security forces last March.

Mohamed Mohamud Hassan (Dhafoor), who according to the Ministry of Security a well-known pirate wanted by the Puntland government after he participated in the kidnapping of Danish family last year. Puntland forces attempted to rescue the family and clashed with pirates who killed 5 and injured 8 near the coastal village of Hul-Anod.

The Puntland forces also apprehended a vehicle the pirates were using and seven assault rifles and a 52 caliber machine gun.

Puntland officials say that the 11 pirates will be given a fair trial in front of a Puntland judiciary.

WHEN PL STARTS EXPORTING OIL, THE SOUTHIE PIRATES WILL TRY TO HIJACK THE SHIP. :down:
PL SHOULD PUSH SOUTHIES PIRATES OVER ILLIG CLIFF TO THEIR DEATHS :clap:

Good job PMPF. Most pirates in Puntland are from the Pirate neighborhood administration of Galmudug. Show them no mercy. :clap:

I am not crying for him. In that picture he looks so pitiful. :|

Most pirate are young man who are in a desperate position. If they had a job and stable source of income they probably wouldn't resort to piracy and life of crime. The Puntland government should create more jobs and opportunities for these young man.

The pirates from Galmudug should harshly be punished so they wouldn't come to our state and cause a havoc.
