.... mathematical riddle..
A GERMAN 16-year-old has become the first person to solve a mathematical problem posed by Sir Isaac Newton more than 300 years ago.
Shouryya Ray worked out how to calculate exactly the path of a projectile under gravity and subject to air resistance, The (London) Sunday Times reported.
The Indian-born teen said he solved the problem that had stumped mathematicians for centuries while working on a school project.
Mr Ray won a research award for his efforts and has been labeled a genius by the German media, but he put it down to "curiosity and schoolboy naivety".

I've read this before on Daily Mail and I think it's overhyped. What exactly was the mystery problem?
Finding the " exact path of a projectile under gravity and subject to air resistance" is not difficult at all. This is basic 1st year college physics.

^ And it puzzled mathematicians for 300 years at the same time? Did you read the article, blakcstar?

This is NOT a good thing.
If that wasn't enough of an achievement, Mr Ray has also solved a second problem, dealing with the collision of a body with a wall, that was posed in the 19th century.

Maybe he found the solution using outdated Newtonian methods or something but generally the problem described is an old one which has been solved and is a standard problem in particle dynamics. Again, maybe he solved it using certain methods but the problem itself has already been solved in many ways.

I wouldn't look too much into it, the flurry of media attention this boy has received is a function of the enthusiasm of mathematically illiterate reporters looking for a good human/immigrant story rather than the work itself.

Newton posed the problem, relating to the movement of projectiles through the air, in the 17th century. Mathematicians had only been able to offer partial solutions until now.
According to the article, mathematicians had only partially solved the problem. Plus, if it has already been solved and it's a standard problem I don't think experts in that specific field wouldn't let it just slide like that, innit?
Alpha, that is not good in what way?

Sow maaha? I can't believe they didn't contact Mr Fighter all this time.
PS: I heard math & science were your least favorite subjects back in high school ee warkaas maxaa ka jira horta, fighterow?

What makes you assume such a thing? Because I am big black man?
I love math. I have scored in the 90th percentile when it came to high school mathematics from 9th grade to 12 grade. I got the highest mark in my Grade 11 Calculus class and got a certificate to prove it
Science I am stupid in. I won't lie about that. I had to beg my biology teacher to pass me.
