Ras Kamboni captures Afmadow

Kenya says seizes Somali rebel bastion of Afmadow

Wed May 30, 2012.

NAIROBI May 30 (Reuters) - Kenyan ground forces captured the Somali rebel redoubt of Afmadow on Wednesday, a military spokesman said, and were closing in on the port city of Kismayu, the hub of al Shabaab militants' southern operations.

"(We have) secured the town of Afmadow," Major Emmanuel Chirchir said on the social media site Twitter.
Kenya sent troops across the border into Somalia in October, blaming al Qaeda-linked insurgents there for a string of kidnappings on Kenyan soil that threatened to harm the east African country's tourism sector.
The Kenyan incursion is part of a three-pronged offensive against the Islamist al Shabaab, who are also battling Ethiopian troops in central Somalia and an African Union force near the capital, Mogadishu.

The coordinated military push against al Shabaab has seen the militants surrender chunks of territory over the past nine months. Kismayu, where most of the group's foreign fighters have historically been based, remains its most significant bastion.

Al Shabaab, which formally merged with al Qaeda earlier this year, has responded by resorting more to guerrilla-style tactics such as suicide bombings and hit-and-run grenade attacks.

On Tuesday, Kenyan battleships patrolling off Kismayu struck al Shabaab positions in the port city after the rebels fired anti-aircraft guns at them.

Chirchir said 11 rebel fighters had been killed by shells from the warship. (Reporting by Richard Lough; Editing by David Clarke and Mark Heinrich)

We call on the Mujahid Sheikh Hassan Al Turki to rejoin his brethren Sheikh Madoobe and strengthen the Ras Kamboni Commando Forces.

Interesting development.

Al-Shabaab is well and truly fucked, being hemmed in from the north and the south. If Amisom links up with the Ethios in Walanweyn to split Shabaab in two, while the Kenyans and TFG forces sweep up the South and Amisom and Ethiopia the northern portion, this war can be over in a matter of months.

AS has 2 escape routes:

1. To Northern Somali where they could lay low and regroup in the mountains.

2. Across the narrow sea where they could join up with AQAP in Southern Yemen.

I don't care where they go as long as they leave our lands. The problem is that it's not so much the group that's a cancer, it's the ideology.

This is the same ideology that led to, among other things, the heinous assault on Mecca in the 70s, the assassination of Anwar Sadat, and more recently 9/11. During the 70s, these same subversive elements attempted to overthrow the Somali government by using religion to incite rebellion among the populace. They were thoroughly eradicated by the progressivist government, only to reappear following the power vacuum of the civil war as Al-Itixaad. They were again vanquished, yet once again their ideological heirs reappeared following the chaos of the Ethiopian incursion. Time and time again, they and their ilk manage to reappear and rebrand themselves, only to be defeated when their alien doctrine becomes too much to take.

The only way to stop this cancer from metastasizing and reappearing following a period of remission is to debase their ideology via your own "scholars" that constantly refute and denigrate their beliefs, while thoroughly dismantling their top leadership. People like Dahir Aweys, who somehow survived the initial liquidation by towradii barakeysneed, the al-Itixad purge, the ICUs destruction, and will probably survive Shabaab, must be finally killed.

Funny thing is, after Al Shabab, there will be two groups that will fight each other for the control of Kismayo and Jubada Hoose. Group A (Jubbaland) and Group B (Azania).
