Greetings From The Motherland: Galkayo City

Made it safe and sound, it's good to be home. :-O

Security is pretty good. Food is great, the people are extraordinary

I thought I knew a lot about Somalia until I landed here. :|

It took me two days from Seattle to get to Galkayo. On my way I landed in Djoubti, Mogadishu.

Great, have you been to Baraxleey? Berdo cad?

You have to be careful saaxib. Galkacyo is a dangerous city nowadays. Keep a low profile and don't be fooled by the "peace" in the air discourse. Go to Garoowe (the suuro capital of the world); it is very peaceful and dynamic.

Oxy,
Be safe. I have been to Africa and there is always this feeling of home coming at the begining; but after a few days you will realise that things are not as good as they look. Garoowe is great. Bosaso is dangerous too. If you have the time visit Qardho, one of the beautiful towns in that part of Somalia; you could also visit Qandalla, Caluula and Raas Xaafun; nice places.

Ninyahow I haven't even put up my graduation pics on facebook yet, let alone the loads of pics I have taken from Xamar to Galkayo yet. I left the wire that connects my camra to my computer in Seattle so inshallah as soon as I find that wire somehwere in Galkayo pics and updates will keep coming.

Lamgoodle so you been to Puntland I take?

I am around family in Galkayo it can't get any better. There is a lot of D.C youth here. Hope you know what D.C stands for here.

Oxy,
Safe trip saaxib. .
DC=Dhaqan celis?
I read somewhere a few weeks ago about riots at a boot camp for DCs in Bosaso.

Don't forget to drink the water of "Berde cade"; a few glasses of that water will help you become a true citizen of Mudgi Mudug   and chant "Najis" "doofaar"after every sentence.

You got it right D.C stands for Dhaqan celis here.

The Boot Camp in Bosaso was a prison and not a Dhaqan celis place, even though that was what the parents were told. I have spoken with youth from all walks of life and their stories you wouldn't believe. :|

Berde Cade sounds so familiar might have been there. Is it anywhere near Diamond center where hella people chill at?

I have been here a week now and offically a local. I have realized one thing and that is more than half the diapora wouldn't survive ever living in Somalia.

What most people from diaspora don't understand is that when they come to Somalia specially the youth, they have to adjust themselves to Somalia and not the other way around. You have to dress, learn how to talk and behave like a local. There are youth here for over six months still being called Dhaqan celis

I am here for a week and no one would dare call me Dhaqan celis

ps: Thank God for "Sahal" most impressive feature of Somalia so far. It's here in Galkayo so I asume it's available throughout the rest of Somalia.

Lol I know two guys who were in that DC boot camp/prison in Boosaaso and escaped with their lives.

Sboq, what Lamagoodle calls "berde cade" is ceelka berdecad a famous well in Gaalkacyo. Actually a great grandson of the man who dug it lives in Seattle. The old man was called Nabadoon Budhuk. Rumour has it the well explains the craziness of reer Mudug but I was told it was meant to explain why there were so many fights over it

Lol @ not being able to survive in Somalia. You just figured this out? Ninyaho post some pics

SomalianBoqor,

Beware, people get capped for no reason in North Galkacyo. Its dangerous out there. If you get very uncomfortable, hit me up and I will get my Carab Salax cabbie to drive you over to the peaceful Southside.
