The damage done to Madhibaan

Being a Madhibaan among Somalis must sukk big time. The average non-Madhibaan Farah may not know how severe this group of ppl are scarred but my recent encounter with one Halimo Madhibaan proved a lot and caused me a lot of grief. I was remorseful, feeling guilty for reasons unknown to me. I know I have no blame in this scenario but to the Madhibaan, I am no different than their next door so-called nasab who has been tormenting them ions gone.

I met this beautiful ..... actually stunning beautiful is the right word ----- Somali lady...... the color of her skin was actually unique to some Somali women ..... dark but seems to be glowing from the inside, kind of radiant, well built, the most beautiful smile ever caressed a woman's lips, finely set teeth, full luscious lips, high cheek bones gurding an independent nose, but the most I admired about her was the lady-like walk. You know that unique Somali women walk, not rushing but not lazy like, but confident and the hips doing a thing of their own, plus the damn "laafyo" swaying that arm as if the street belongs to her and passersby are her subjects, Shidh. She got it all.

However, our intentions were different, or so I thought, I was pursuing a relationship and she a friendship, when I finally confronted and cornered her, with teary eyes, she said.............. "oh Sir-Luggoyo, as much as I would love to entertain that idea with you, it will all come back to the fact that I am Madhiban and you are not" she continued... "you will be pressured (by your kinfolk) to disregard whatever relationship we have nurtured and you will eventually succumb to that pressure, and even if you disregard it, you will be an outcast and I have no place for an outcast, I want my children to have relations with your extended family and that ain't gonna happen, so I am afarid, we have to end it"
written by Sir loggoyo. I found it very saddening. :(

InshaaAllaah,
one day the Madhibaan will join the Afran Qalloo family where they belong
enough with this blatant racism and descrimination.

This is perhaps the most excruciating part of being a somali. We are loud mouth when we encounter racism in the diaspora but are mute when it comes to our own institutionalised racism.

Lamgoodle the problem is cultural racism. No somali actually hates marrying or being related to madhibaan but the communal structure prevents them from being secure. Its only natural they would avoid something that will cause humiliation to their family and loved ones.

Grandpapa,

Are you sure about that?
Racism is always underpinned by "cultural constructions" saaxib.

This social construction has become endemic to the extent that even those called "Madhibaans" excercise it on others.

Sheikh Lamagoodle,

How do you propose we fix this injustice to them? Do you think a national reconciliation should occur or do you predict this sickness to forever be apart of the Somali cultural fabric.

Lamagodle,

Mahdibans were just vanquished tribes. We are all potential Madhibans  Mine was at its closest if UNOSOM II had won

I know families from these tribes, the males most successful somali males I ever saw, the females blowing all over somali girls out of the water in beauty, yet they cannot find matches except from their relatives many times who are in Somalia.

Sometimes You think Somalis deserve what they get due to their unwarranted, undeserved kibir/arrogance.

Grandpapa,
I propose the following;
a) The clergy preach that the so called "Nasab" mentioned in Islam has nothing to do with "madhibaan". There was this sheikh in MN who a few years ago attempted this; his listeners in the mosque applauded his move to marry his daughter to a one madhibaan. But, during the wedding itself no one from his "clan" showed up
b) Somalis of high calibre (i.e. the educated, the rich, the famous) should start a process of integration; intermarriages
c) We institute a week of "mourning" for all the wrongs done to our brethren.

Lamagoodle,

Mashallah, we should also have some sort of governance in Somalia which fines anti-minority slurs from being publicly stated.

Your last sentence is unfair. Even among the Kikuyus they have a social strata. You avoid some of the sheegato clans.

Lamgodle,

Abti, nowdays, even marrying into certain tribes is an issue.

Grandpapa,
This issue has a direct and strong relationship to the cancer of tribalism that has engulfed our nation. It is when - and if we kill tribalism that we can achieve a society that does not discriminate.

Abdiwahab, abti , true but the "nasab" card is not employed in that case-

There is a perfectly logical explanation why Madhibaans are treated differently. Their manners and characters are different from the average Somali. Their women tend to have a whorish behaviors, while their men tend to pimp out their own females. Their entire dhaqan is disgusting and absurd.

Perhaps centuries of enslavement and psychological abuse have ruined their manners and character, but there is a reason why they were categorized by our great grandparents.

I hope Allah guides the U.S Rangers that took part in Operation Restore Hope in 1992/1993. I hope those that were killed reverted to Islam before they died. They have done great job in exterminating the cockroaches of Caydiid.
