The Oracle of Arareey
Hutuking01 bid farewell to his family and caught a ride on a truck transporting sugar from Kismayo to Dhobley. It was a bumpy ride over the rough terrain and after nearly three hours, the vehicle was stopped at checkpoint. It was manned by a group of young teenagers who were dressed in desert camouflage fatigues. One of them waved down the truck which stopped while the others walked over from the acacia tree. The ongoing conflict had reduced the number of vehicles traveling plying this route. Like ants, they crawled on the truck searching for any hidden weapons.
"Salam Aleykum, Adeer," said Hutuking01 who was very nervous as he did not know whom these men were loyal to.
"Wa Aleykum Salam, adeer," replied one of the men.
"Adeer, Do you have a cigarette ?"
"Sure, adeer, " and Hutuking01 handed over a pack of cigarettes to the young man. He felt relieved as he realized that these were not Xarakada fighters who shunned tobacco. He wiped off the beads of sweat that had pooled on his forehead.
"Thank you, adeer."
"Where are you from ?"
"We came from Jilib and are headed to Dhobley,"
"How is Jilib, do the Xarakada control it ?"
"Yes, they do. Son, I am looking for the freedom fighters."
"You have met them, what is it you want ?"
"Your leader, he is my cousin."
"Get the fock out of here, how do you know Abdiwahab, anyways get off the truck and I will take you to him ! What was your name again ?"
"Hutuking of Ceel Ahmed, he will know me."
Hutuking jumped off the FIAT N50 trailer and went off with the young militiaman who sat him down under the acacia tree. The militiaman went back to the truck
and asked the driver for some money before letting the vehicle proceed on its journey. He returned and blindfolded Hutuking01 and throwing him on to a Toyota twin cabin pick up. HutuKing01's fear soon returned. He did not know where he was headed and had trust his life with a stranger. "God, if you get me out of this, I promise to increase my dikri and to fast for 30 days." After about 1 hour, the vehicle came to a screeching halt.
"Get out !" boomed a voice.
Hutuking01 felt himself being tossed out of the vehicle. He stumbled to get up and felt hands searching his body. When the blindfold was lifted, the sight he was amazed at what he saw. A sprawling military garrison teeming with several hundred fighters who were seated listening to instructions from a man with a beard. Hutuking01 could hardly make out his dear old friend. It had been nearly 20 years when they last saw each other.
Abdiwahab stopped his lecture when he saw his dear friend.
"Guhaad, carry on."
Abdiwahab walked over to Hutuking01. He too barely could make out his old friend. The two former comrades were not the rebellious university students who had opposed the Marxist regime in the 80s and early 90s. Time had taken a toll on both men.
"Ina Laxwase," laughed Abdiwahab who was pleasantly surprised to see his comrade.
"Qumboleef," replied Hutuking01.
The two men hugged each other and Abdiwahab walked Hutuking01 over to his tent. He ordered a meal for Hutuking and the two caught up on two decades: who was alive, who died, and where the old crew where.
"Abdiwahab, I am here on personal matter. I have been in living in Jilib since 1992. Never left the place since the last war. Life has been harsh there under the Xarakada. It has become a living hell with forced conscription, extreme corporal punishments and exhortation of businesses. Yesterday, it became personal. I was threatened by a senior Xarakada official who told me to pass on a message to you or risk decapitation !" As he spoke, Hutuking eyes teared up.
Abdiwahab was shocked to see how worked up his friend was.
"So what was the message ?" asked Abdiwahab.
"Wardheer..."
"And the name of thug ?"
"He goes by the name of Newyorkawi ?"
The name seemed very familiar to Abdiwahab.
"Does he walk with a limp ?"
"Yes,.."
"Son of a bit,ch, do you know who that is ? Remember that kid Caanoboodhe from Jalalaqsi ? The one who used to be Axmed Cumar Jess's driver and would always shaxad you for your cigarettes."
Hutukingo1 faintly remembered him.
"The one who shot up those poor donkeys that evening in Carbiska thinking that it was Manifesto creeping up on him, remember Hutuking ?"
"Dameerdile ? Son of a bitch ? Dameerdile, that bastard we helped whisk to Beletweyne and then to Ogadenia, Abdi ?"
Both men laughed and wondered how Dameerdile rose up to be a Xarakada commander. They soon sat down and began grazing on giza imported from Kenya. It had been months since Hutuking had grazed and the khat soothed his nerves. The two grazed into the following morning with Hutuking updating Abdiwahab on Jilib, the Xarakada and based on the information he gathered, Abdiwahab knew Guhaad's intel was faulty.
"Hutuking, abowe, I will be leaving in a few hours. Come join me in this campaign and I promise you that you will be well rewarded."
"Abdi, I would love to but I have three wives and several kids living in Xarakada controlled areas and the Iblis needs me to get back there soon."
"I understand. If you need to find me, call me at this number. I apologize for being a tad bit too broke but I hope this can help you on your journey back."
Abdi handed $500 to his friend who was surprised at his generosity. He put Hutuking01 on another truck heading towards Jilib after Hutuking turned down to take a
ride in Abdi's personal vehicle until the furthest AZ controlled territory. Hutuking knew that the Xarakada had spies along the road.
"Taliye, who is that man ?" asked Guhaad.
"That is my cousin. Are the preparations complete ?"
"Yes, taliye, we roll out at Asar and will be headed towards the small village of Aararey. We will be joined by the 2 additional units sent from Kenya by President Gandhi."
"What, Guhaad, why was I not informed of this ?"
"I just received word this morning."
"Who will be leading them ?"
"Captain Faranacab."
"Guhaad what do you know what this captain ?"
"Nothing much except he is a close relative of Gandhi and a trusted associate."
"Very well, carry on, Guhaad."
Guhaad saluted and walked away to mobilize the garrison.
This revelation confirmed Abdiwahab's suspicions. Something was a foot and it was not going to end well for him, most importantly his Farmaajo. The prize was so close yet so far away. Abdi would have to not only defeat the Xarakada but also defend his crown. Interesting days lay ahead of him and he would have to form alliances to ensure his survival.
TO BE CONTINUED.

Warya,
He is stuck somewhere. I wanted to capture the Somali side first and let the Kenyans be the wild card.

Eagle,
You must develop a plot. The fun starts in the upcoming chapters as all sides move against each other, alliances are made and broken, etc.
Patients young one patience.
