Good question 26 June is a very important day its the end of British colonialism more than 70 years free and independent the only problem was when gained independence we shared and united with the Walanweyns which was the biggest mistake we ever did. so 26 June is a very important day in our history.

The thing is 18 may the state of Somaliland that was lost in 1960 with the union, 18 may made it reality so that's a very important day as well it marked a new history day for the people of Somaliland.

But Knowing my father and uncles who witnessed 26 June in Hargeysa and as they described was the most the greatest day ever.

No i think they are Equal important see independence was gained in 1960 free of colonialism and British Imperialism for the first time people were free to do what ever they liked no more brits the land was eventually free the only sad thing was they united with the walanweyns. But in 1991 18 may nationhood was established the statehood that was lost was reinstated . So they actually fill each other up gained independence and 18 may nationhood was established.

East Africa Marks Two New Nations
The New York Times
Monday, June 27, 1960

HARGEISA, Somaliland, June 26 (Reuters) – A blue and White starred flag was hoisted here today after all-night celebrations ending seventy-three years of British rule in this East African Territory at the south end Red Sea.

Mohammed Haji Ibrahim Egal took an Oath on the Quran as Premier of the new nation of Somaliland.

Nearly 1,000 British-trained Somali troops were handed over to him by the retiring commandant; Brig. Gen. O. G. Brooks.

Mr. Egal welcomed a delegation from a neighboring Italian Somalia, scheduled to unite with Somaliland to form a republic of 2,000,000 population when Italy gives up her United Nations trusteeship Friday.

I always found interesting in what methods the British used in the past to create a political and cultural schism in territories they long have vacated
There are similarities between the confederate state of america and somaliland in their post-independence identity and sense of belonging

there is a great similarities between theidoor and appalachian rednecks, they seem to share a culture of bohemianism
