lol they merely defeated a few dozen peacekeeper troops. even with that the casualties were like 1000:1 in favor of the marines.

it doesn't matter the casualities, and I didn't know US rangers were considered peacekeepers.blackstars25 wrote:lol they merely defeated a few dozen peacekeeper troops. even with that the casualties were like 1000:1 in favor of the marines.

They accidentally stumbled on the Achilles heal of the Jewnited States
Dragging their dead and naked cannon fodder with full media exposure through the streets of Moqdisho. Also the fact that election time was quite close

interesting so you say that the american public was so appalled by the public defeat of their soldiers and that the president, in order to salvage his reputation withdrew to save face?Thuganomics wrote:They accidentally stumbled on the Achilles heal of the Jewnited States

Re: How did OPERATION RESTORE HOPE fail?
As far as I know, Clinton got spooked after the Black Hawk Down incident and withdrew his forces after that. US forces were never defeated militarily on the battleground, but for political reasons pertaining to the loss of US soldiers did they decide to withdraw.
I wish they had stayed though
Wouldn't you? Could US forces staying in Somalia be any worse than the situation it is now? If they had stayed, most probably they would've been gone by now. Somalia would've been prosperous, with ports airports roads and endless economic opportunities. All of us would probably be in Somalia right now.
Remember the task of the mission was also to bring food aid. People always forget to mention this. There was hundreds of thousands dead because of the famine/related diseases in 1991, by conservative estimates US saved 200,000+ lives.

Re: How did OPERATION RESTORE HOPE fail?
If that is true and the US is this benevolent entity that has so much heart they would risk their young mens life's just to feed some starving Africans. Why then did they just two years later in Rwanda in 1994, actively intervened to prevent humanitarian support for those who were being slaughtered.blackstars25 wrote:Remember the task of the mission was also to bring food aid. Re: How did OPERATION RESTORE HOPE fail?
^your grasp of history and simple logic is appalling. it is the very tragic experience they had in somalia that led US to have no appetite for any further humanitarian interventions in africa. i don't think US is this "benevolent all loving" entity that you say, but unlike you i recognise and give credit for the good they do.

i will not accept "if that is true". It is true. There a million ways you can verify this historical fact, but i'm not gonna do your homework for you.

So this sudden urge they had in 1992 which they never had before (Ethiopia 84) and never had since Rwanda awful fleeting don't you think.Yet they do have a wholesome appetite for military intervention Bosnia Serbia Iraq 2 Afhanistan

Re: How did OPERATION RESTORE HOPE fail?
but if i understand what you're saying, the rwandan genocide happened shortly after the somalia debacle so obviously the somalia experience was fresh in their minds when considering another intervention.
there's also a difference between iraq and somalia/rwanda. iraq/middle east is vital to US interests. feeding starving warring skinnies and stopping another genocide in africa is not.
as for bosnia.....??? they saved tens of thousands of muslims from massacre what you tripping on?? they didn't even have to do this. or is this a myth too??? this is what i mean when i say US gets zero credit for what ever they do. if there's was a single thing muslims should approve of past US foreign policy it would be their handling of the bosnia situation no questions.
