Smart, educated, yet unable to find partners.
There has a been a rising trend in the Somali diaspora. Smart educated somali females are finding it harder and harder to get married. Having done just about everything right in the dos and dont's of their society, succeeding were their counterparts have fallen (ie somali males), a great number of educated somali sisters find themselves staying single, longer-not because of their own will but lack of suitors.
No one has the actual numbers, but its clear a greater number of somali females graduate and go on to higher education than somali males. The typical Somali male seems to have a number of options available to him, whether he decides to pursue higher education or not. For one, he can pursue the Taxi driver route were he returns back home and is treated like a king. This is regardless of his educational level. Due to the fact of that he is coming from the west, he is in a position to pick and choose as he wishes. And because he is a MALE, the hierarchy of power does not change.
The issue seems to lie with the educated Somali male who for some odd reason either pursue traditional women or worse, marry a foriegner (muslim or) they meet at their respective institutions. The biggest culprits are our beard trimming brothers. Although the option of marrying foriegners can be said to be available to the women, being a conservative society its not as easy for women to follow such a route.
What you end up having then is a helpless situation in which our most brightest women are unable to find equally educated men. With a last resort, the family arranges marriage with a camel herding cousin form the countryside for their daughter. The ultimate insult occurs when this fiercly independent young nomad, whose been told his whole life that his in charge begins to dictate to the more intelligent being.

They will find a sexy cadaan man who is on the same level as them.

It's the old question of, should a women get educated, if by doing so she compromises her ability to find suitors?hipsterrunoff wrote:These women should marry out then. They will find a sexy cadaan man who is on the same level as them.
Or better redefined, should women reconsider marrying first before pursuing higher up ed, like PhD?
Now in terms of the Somali muslim women, the option of marrying a foreigner who is not a muslim pays a high price upto full ex-communication from family members and close relatives.
Hiosterrunoff, in light of this topic, do you plan on going ontco college
and pursue things like medicine or pharmacy?

I'll be honest, no man wants an intelligent, educated girl, we want a woman we can control, who will please us when we demand it, who will cook us adaquate food, which will please our bellies and a girl who obeys him. Educated girls usually come off as annoying, prude and pompous, which are not qualities a man desires for our partner.

It's my own suspicion that a large number of sisters on this site fall under this category. I think we should have a serious discussion about this.

Hipsterrunoff, being a young female, is it because you are not interested in these fields or do you fear you would be "past your prime" as some would say by the time you are done?hipsterrunoff wrote:Talo: Of course. I won't purse medicine or pharmacy tho.

Grandpak: Seriously. Like wtf? Don't you want someone you can have deep convos with on issues such as what is currently going on in the world, politics and sports?! Also, a partner who will understand inside jokes as well as other things that you're watching on tv or read in a newspaper/magazine?! Or do you just want a simple woman who you just brought from the bushes of Somalia that only understands things like click click.
