Depends on the person and how the laptop will be used. They are both the same price (13") so it comes down to whether you prefer computing power or portability. Macbook Air is almost half as light, thinner but less powerful by a margin.

MacBook air is cheaper by like a 100 and something pounds. What do u mean by less powerful don't they have the same software? The only thing I hate about the air is that it doesn't have a CD player

Less powerful means slower. It is about how fast a computer can process and execute information. Some are fast and some slower. Faster is more expensive. The chip in the computer called processor determines all that. It is the speed with which those processor chips calculate and execute instructions. hope that explains a bit.

^that would be the least of your worries. apparently it gets overheated too.

it is less powerful as it has lower specs i.e cpu, memory etc.

no, they are the same price for 13" model, unless you want 11" which is ridiculously small.

I will go for Mac pro because it has full featured and extra port such as USB, FireWire and dedicated Ethernet port.
Although they are good both of them however, Mac pro is far more robust machine than Mac air, so make you mind up and let me know which one you go for it.

guys, she may never need that extra power or even notice the difference. CD/external ports vs mobility would be my concern.

Lmao ur proper educating me about processors. I study computer science I know all that. Tbh I don't mind it being slower I just feel the air would be easier to carry around to lectures and stuff it doesn't weigh much but I don't like how I can't play CDs and DVDs on it

seriously, you study computer science? and you think a computer being "more powerful" has to only do with software?

anyway there a zillions of websites that beat this topic to death, it amazes me that it never occurs to people to do a google search for such generic questions.

ps what you plan to do with your CS degree?

You study CS, but you don't know why a pc would be faster than another one? Not to mention, you think it has to do with software? C'mon.
