To my neighborly Kenyans,
Leave Somalia while you can ! Nothing but sorrow, death and anguish await you. Somalis have been experienced warriors who embrace war and conflict like you embrace dancing and drinking cold Tuskers

We live to fight ! Our poems, even our hellos are conflict related, Sow nabad mahan (So are you peaceful ?). You live to dance, drink and be merry (not necessarily bad things as its your culture).
We are not ProAl Shabab as much as we are not ProTFG/ProRasKiamboni. We are victims of our own internal politics yet we will not stand for sustained foreign invaders. AMISOM is an invasive foreign species who at the end of the day will be dislodged from Somalia like many other foreign invaders: Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, France, USA, Malaysians, Saudis, Egyptians, Soviets, etc.
No matter what you may have been told; there is one truth: no foreigner will ever understand how Somalis think. Your Yusuf Haji and the other cohorts from NEP have little understanding of Somalia. They assume because they are Somali from NEP that they understand their cousins across the border but they do not. Yusuf Haji and the Somali Kenyans are Kenyan not Somali citizens. Somalia is not an easy place to stabilize or control.
A similar Kenyan invasion was tried in the past and it failed spectacularly. In early 1991, after overthrow of the Somali government by Somali rebels, the Ex-President Barre went to Kenya. He garnered support from former President Moi to rearm, supply and provide Somali Kenyan soldiers of the KDF to assist Barre's men to recapture Mogadishu from the rebel United Somali Congress (USC). The architect and sponsor of the plan was former Chief of the Kenyan Army, Genereal Mohamud. The General convinced Moi to support Barre even though the risks where high. The relations between Mogadishu and Nairobi were already tense prior to the conflict as Nairobi denied Mogadishu's request to extradite Barre. The discovery of Moi's clandestine support resulted added to the tension.
The results were disastrous as the combined Barre & clandestine KDF forces were routed by the USC rebels who defeated them rapid succession in early 1992. The final epic battle saw Mandera Kenya fall to the USC forces who were in hot pursuit of Barre whom they believed was going to flee into Kenya through Mandera. He instead exited Somalia via El Wak where Moi sent a military helicopter to rescue his beleaguered ally. The USC forces occupied Mandera, Kenya until they received guarantees from Nairobi that it would stop supporting its enemies. An agreement was reached which saw the USC forces withdraw from Kenyan territory after a week long occupation.
Today, we have a similar invasion with Yusuf Haji having convinced President Kibaki to get involved in Somalia just like his fellow Garissan General Mohamud had done with Moi. However, the stakes are much higher now as the Kenyan operation is larger, not clandestine and seeks to establish a Kenyan proxy state inside Somalia. The enemy, Al Shabab, is much more elusive, dangerous and has broad appeal inside Kenya. The financial cost of Operation Linda Inchi is much higher. Do not be convinced that AMISOM will cover all of the costs

Will AMISOM replace the tourists ? Will AMISOM protect Nairobi from a nefarious Al Shabab ring ?
Kenya has always been proud of being a peacemaker in the region. Is it worth risking the gains made from being a peaceful country for a war that is not ours ? Why fight other nation's conflicts when there are bigger problems at home: crime, food insecurity, political tensions etc ? I am not endorsing that we don't tackle extremism and terrorism but let us do it INSIDE Kenya. Let us step up border protection and use the KDF to secure our border to prevent insecurity spilling over into Kenya.
