How long will Amisom stay in SOMALIA?

Post by Meseret »

Is there any deadline for them to leave somalia? is it wrong to say that Amisom is a foreign occupation and that somalia is a colony in the moment...... how long will it take the Somali national army to return? 5 years? who pays for Amisom? and how long will they do that? will the warlords return if Amisom leaves somalia? which one is the most powerful, Amisom or TFG?

The mandate of AMISOM ends this August. But I guess many of you don't know that they UNSC have starved AMISOM off funds. I don't know why this is happening, but I think it has everything to do with the mischievousness of Uncles Sam and Johnny. Apparently, western nations are not happy with Africans solving their own problems. I know many of you will think that I'm just making this up, but the truth is that America was never happy with china's involvement in the Somalia war. they were offended because they were not consulted.

Western nations are never happy when Africans help each other. A good example is what is happening in the DRC. They put there a 20,000 strong peacekeeping force to "protect civilians" . But we can bet on this: that the recent decision by IGAD and Great Lakes nations to set up a neutral force to deal with the M23 rebels will not get any support from western nations. Because they want Somalia, and Congo, to continue being unstable. I am not sure what they're getting from it.

As long as there is One alshabaaab soldier alive, amisom way joogayaan. you can do the maths. Alshabaab currently have 15000 armed soldiers with a recruit of 1000 ayear added to their head count. I Would say they would probably stay for another 10 years as long as america is paying their salaray. Uganda was told to take some 600 soldiers back because they over deployed. That is how much Ugandan loves to send troops. How can you send 600 soldiers by mistake.

I just want to point out that Al-Shabab doesn't have anywhere near the 15,000 armed men in their organization now nor did they have that much during their good days.
The strength of al-Shabab is not precisely known. Mohamed — a four-year veteran of al-Shabab until this month's defection — estimated that the insurgents have 7,000 to 8,000 fighters. [Lt. Col. Paddy] Ankunda put the figure at 4,000 to 6,000.
They do not have 1000 a year added into their organization. Hundreds have already defected to the TFG side.
Somali government spokesman Abdirahman Omar Osman said Thursday that some 500 al-Shabab fighters have defected to the government side.

"The defections have been increasing day by day since our forces captured Afgoye town. That put huge pressure on them," Osman said.

The spokesman for the African Union military force said AU commanders are seeing more defections than ever.
This isn't 2008. Al-Shabab is a dying organization.
The 24-year-old former insurgent left al-Shabab less than two weeks ago and now wears a bright blue patch with a white star — the Somali flag — on the shoulder of his government uniform.

"Al-Shabab is no longer. It's going to end soon," Mohamed said last week at freshly dug Ugandan-Somali military base on the outskirts of Mogadishu. The base was set up after African Union troops kicked militants out of the towns of Elasha Biyaha and Afgoye.
