The war against Siad Barre was really not worth it.

You have to understand that Siad Barre was only good in the first half of his dictatorship. But he has a record of killing many people, stolen peoples land to give his own clan and his allies and has committed many crimes. You also have to know that there was a clan hierarchy in his days. Certain clans were on the top while others were at the bottom. He brought his nomadic cousins and kin from the bush (who couldn't read or right) into the highest ranks of military and government. It wasn't a fair and just time. But Most of Somalia's history wasn't a fair and just time.

Things are bad now, yes but alhamduillah they are getting better. Anyone would rather have the days of Barre (especially reer Konfuur), but it would be unfair to accept Siad Barre's crimes or to deny what he did. My father was forced out of Somalia in the late 70s and only happened to go back to Borama a few years ago after decades in exile.

I hope God forgives him and AUN to the man though. Also the rebels, warlords and etc. They all made mistakes, millions suffered and may our country get better inshallah. Love your people, help one another and only care for Somalinimo and not your kin.

What's happening to Somalia is as equally every Somalis fault just as it is afweyns. We have no one to blame but our elder generation I mean look how useless some of them are claiming welfare and being lazy scums of course the country was bound to start burning with ppl like that being produced. The most embarrassing thing is this Kuwaiti friend of mine said to me why do you Somalis like to go to other ppls countries and not fix your own. If every Somali went back and fixed their country instead of preaching to be treated equally in the west and Arab countries ur country wouldn't be messed then he said in Kuwait I boss the Somalis and every other non Kuwaiti coz its my country, do you guys like living in countries where ur bossed around and treated like 2nd class instead of fixing ur own country and living like 1st class. Wallahi that made me so embarrassed.

You can only blame the road that Barre took after '77, the real collapse of unity was after the failure of the '77 war, and Meseret, every single leader is responsile for his people, If you want to lead a country, you must do your best to look after your people, the way i see it with the Somali Republic, was Barre had a thing in mind that if he left the seat no one would take it after him, and so he jumped off the front seat and the car fell into a ditch. And its still in that ditch today.

First thank you for your contribution to this thread

you said " every single leader is responsile for his people, If you want to lead a country, you must do your best to look after your people"

I agree and thats why I have posted those pictures to show how much Siyad barre looked after his beloved people and gave somali children free education up to university, Somalia was the only country in Africa where you had free schools, before Siyad Barre poor people did not send their children to the pubic schools. I think 21 years after Siyad Barre its pathetic to blame him for Somalia's problems he left the country and somalis still was fighting and killing each other, the problem was never Siyad barre but the rebels, if siyad was the problem somalia will had been a paradise the day he left us. Did Aideed look after the people when he starved more than 300000 people to death? or did the SNM look after the people when they divided the country or SSDF when they invited Ethiopia to invade in 2006? tell me who is better than siyad? what did the rebels achieve after siayd?
