Somaliland: SomCable Rolls Out IP over DWDM Network Using Optelian’s Optical Transport System

Somcable workers laying fibre optic cables in Hargeisa Marietta, GA/ Ottawa,–Optical networking specialist Optelian is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with SomCable to deploy Optelian's LightGAIN system on a terrestrial backbone network to provide faster and more cost-effective communication for Somaliland.

Somalistan yes i am in Somaliland hargeysa staying another two more weeks i took lots if pictures owner of somcable is buidling a 5 store building head quaters in Hargeysa for his company and this project. Just down town hargeysa the problem is uploading pictures takes ages in here so i posted some pictures already in here like 8. But will post more when i am in dubai or back in London

Does this mean reer Hargeisa would be using WIRELESS WIFI networks? and that people can hook up their PS3'S and play online?

Cable is going to be very expensive. Its cheaper to use microwave satellite from Djibouti than to detour the cable which costs $1 million per kilometer.

Somcable are trying to establish a micro-fibre cable that would go from Somaliland's coast to djbouti's coast.

It would be cheaper to just rely on microwaves than deploying a huge cable whose return on investment would take years.
Plus the vast majority of SomCable's bandwidth is used in Puntland and South Central
