One of the earliest themes that human beings dwelled on concerns the issue of our existence: the notion that the human individual is a conscious subject and that as human beings, we undertake a never ending quest to understand the meaninglessness and nothingness of our existence.
In western philosophy, the notion that one’s existence is absurd is known as existentialism. The Danish philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard who lived in the early 19th century wrote about the meaningless and nothingness of our existence. He claimed our existence filled with anxiety, despair, a sense of hopelessness and deep despair that will ultimately consume those of us who assign deeper thought processes to the issue.
Kierkagaard wrote that he stuck his finger into existence and found that it smelled of nothingness and asked him “ who lured me into this thing and leaves me here?” he goes on to mock existence by asking the question; who brought me into this world and why am I not consulted?
As you know, Somalia is a nonexistent country when put in a global context. The name Somali(a) is associated with failed states, warlordism, religious fundamentalism, piracy etc. Our people (somalis) are viewed as the missing between ape and mankind.
Our wadaads (pseudo scholars) shy from tackling our quandaries. They are good at telling us about Jihad in far away countries but not the Jihad of the self. They dine with warlords, pirates, welfare cheats, child killers and rapists. They are experts on everything. They will talk about female genitals, the human brain, diseases etc without basic knowledge. They will prescribe a discourse that does not have support in medicine or common sense. Povero somalo. The xaawaleys – reer aay Batuulo- follow suit. It is about clothes. They wear the hijab due to peer pressure and chant “muslim baan ahay” mantra although a closer scrutiny reveals that it is an act that deserves a guild.
Our waranle’s (urbanites) have physically abandoned their geeljire life but not the geeljire psyche. The good old days when the geeljire’s philosophy was “Ilaahaga qab oortaad rac” is bygone. Today’s geeljire is a product of 40 years of indoctrination. He believes that Maandeeq is no longer a living camel but state coffers. He does not ask what fills the coffers. He lives in reer magaal discourse of “cadkeey I sii”. He wants to drive an expensive car, build a villa etc without any thought on how to amass wealth.
Our waable leads an elusive life style. As the Geeljire and the pseudo-wadaad his thought repertoire is characterized by a “waan daadshe” mentality. He strongly feels that reer magaalnimo is about survival without sweating. In the diaspora, his business model is the creation of Jaaliyad, wearing suits and appearing on Somali Television shows. He loves titles such as Doctor, Wariye, Engineer and many other titles.
So, there is a question to pose; why do we exist?
As a Somali who has been living in exile for many years and who by any standard has achieved academicand material luminosity, your correspondent can’t help but wonder why Allah brought us on to this earth? Why did he leave us in moral emptiness? Why does he accept our moral values to decay?
The metaphysics of existentialism tells us that we should consider the following issues a) our existence precedes the essence of our lives (we are conscious subjects that are difficult to manipulate) b) that our lives are characterized by anxieties and anguish (e.g. fear and death), c) absurdity of ones existence and d) a life of void (nothingness).
After several years of thoughts what emerges is an antithesis;
a)My existence as a somali cannot be considered to subsist as a conscious mind that makes independent decisions. It is an artifact of a polluted mind that is poisoned in accordance with socially constructions that dates back to archaic times. I am a slave of the imperceptible god who limits my thought process, capability to rationally reason. In my “tribe” I see as Sartre did an invisible god but I cannot unfortunately shout he is dead because my existence is based on the notion that he (my clan) is true science. I see my Somali brethren quote his existence from the Holy Quran! He (my tribe) has been mentioned in the Quran. If you deny his existence you will end up in Hellfire from the true and only God, Allah!
b)As a Somali anguish and anxiety is just for discourse. Abusive words which I say Amen to when a false pious person utters them. Inside me I hear voices that say “ waryaa fulinimadu waa ceeb”. I I cannot claim that my existence is based on serving Allah because in so doing I reject the foundations of the silly god (tribalism). The dark and foreboding picture of Sartre’s god and my god – the ever present/omnipotet tribe- leads me to reject rational ideas of my existence such as happiness, excitement, enlightenment, optimism, the serenity of stoicism etc since these ideas are naïve to the tragic aspect of my somalinimo
c)As a Somali my existence is not based on the absurdity of life. I am not only my own existence but part of an invisible collective existence that I do not dictate. I am part and parcel of the “reerka” leading a double life; I am on my own in mind but orally I represent a cohort of ideas that I have no control over.
d)I am something in contrast to nothingness. I am from the “waan daadshe” nation and as such should apply the role of a god who is all knower.
P.s. I am not the new character by the nickname “Leftist”. I like his style of writing and even share some of his perspectives.
P.s. I think the so called Parliament is a farce! It is based on the so called 4,5 system (a cancerous tumour in my view which does not have any support in logic, theology or common sense). In spite of this, my favourite candidates are Samatar (president) Baadiyow (PM).

Your poor attempt at sounding deep turned out to sound blasphemous.

Bulshada somalinet waxaa la haboon inaay is dhaafsadaan fikrado ku saleeysan ciribtirka cudurkaan.
´GaajoUnit, hayaay! That is a gross accusation. What makes you come to that conclusion? This piece has nothing to do with atheism ; reread it again; the word "god" is not the same as "God".

Let me try to sound deep and post a poem by Rumi.
Lord, said David, since you do not need us,
why did you create these two worlds?
Reality replied: O prisoner of time,
I was a secret treasure of kindness and generosity,
and I wished this treasure to be known,
so I created a mirror: its shining face, the heart;
its darkened back, the world;
The back would please you if you've never seen the face.
Has anyone ever produced a mirror out of mud and straw?
Yet clean away the mud and straw,
and a mirror might be revealed.
Until the juice ferments a while in the cask,
it isn't wine. If you wish your heart to be bright,
you must do a little work.
My King addressed the soul of my flesh:
You return just as you left.
Where are the traces of my gifts?
We know that alchemy transforms copper into gold.
This Sun doesn't want a crown or robe from God's grace.
He is a hat to a hundred bald men,
a covering for ten who were naked.
Jesus sat humbly on the back of an ass, my child!
How could a zephyr ride an ass?
Spirit, find your way, in seeking lowness like a stream.
Reason, tread the path of selflessness into eternity.
Remember God so much that you are forgotten.
Let the caller and the called disappear;
be lost in the Call.

"constantly"? evidence?
Refrain from commenting articles that are meant for men and women of high caliber.
Your one-liner comments verify the thesis of this piece.
