Founded by a diverse and dedicated group comprised of students, professionals, and freelancers, the Puntland Progress Coalition’s mission is to strengthen the public institutions of Puntland. As a frontier Somali state in the War on Terror and the fight against maritime piracy, Puntland is a critical piece in the puzzle of world stability.
With more than 350,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Puntland, a largely nomadic population of its own, and an increasing number of urban poor, the PPC is guided towards the empowerment of Puntland’s most marginalized members of society. The PPC empowers women among its own ranks and maintains a minimum 30% quota of female presence in the senior leadership.
The senior leaders, ordinary members, and supporters of the PPC help to ensure that education, health, women’s rights, and public accountability in Puntland reach satisfactory levels and remain in good standing. The PPC will achieve its goals by tapping primarily into the talents and resources of the wide Somali diaspora and to help create a stronger Puntland. Other forms of support are encouraged, such as private fundraising and public aid from national governments to Puntland.
