Learning Arabic FAQs

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

Salam people ! I wanted to know what is the best Arabic dialect to learn. Which is the cheapest Arabic country to learn Arabic without being put on a watch list ? I heard good things about Syria before the Sunnis went nuts. I am told Egypt is the best place and the most popular dialect. How about Iraqi Arabic ? Baghdad was always an esteemed center of learning. I would also be able to visit the blessed cities of Najjaf, Karbala, and Qom.

I hear Yemen is the best place to learn Classical Standard Arabic. If you are worried about future travelling/alphabet boys issues, tell the airport authority to stamp a piece of paper rather than your passport.

In yemen, they can't even speak arabic. They say dhabar just like the somali dhabar, geed just like the somali geed/tree. They speak a very very local arabic even their educated men can't speak arabic except wathalika!

AW

Go for the egyptian, it has been considered as an standard arabic after al fus`ha.

AW, it depends on why you want to learn it. If you want to speak and be understood, then the Egyptian dialect is best. If you want to learn for quran/diin, the classical Arabic is best. However, nobody speaks nor (for the most part) understands classical Arabic, you'd pretty much have to learn from books or in class. It's like learning Latin to speak to Italians. I personally have no interest in learning colloquial Arabic, I want to learn it purely for academic and religious purposes, so classical is the one I want to master, Inshallah.
