Re: Quadruplets Delivered In a Hut
Child birth is one of the most difficult experiences a woman can possibly undergo. Poverty, lack to health care, clean water, adequate nutrients, proper hygiene, and instability continues to increases maternal and child mortality in Somalia. The video stated that 1 out 12 women will die due to pregnancy related complications and 1 out of 10 child dies before reaching the age of 1. That is a staggering amount of PREVENTABLE deaths. The economic, health, and social condition of a mother directly influences her welfare during pregnancy and the well being of her child during the birth process and his/her first five years.
Every time a woman gets pregnant she is putting her life and that of her child's on the line. It truly is a risky-business in Somalia. And it requires a well managed and functioning health care system to ease the burden of these mothers and their children.

The whole backward culture of fgm adds to the agony that these women suffer.

Amiin. It's comforting to know that every Muslim woman who dies giving birth is a martyr in Islam. It's not an easy process.zulaika wrote:so true, may Allah ease the hardship endured by mothers, wherever they are..Amiin.ElfRuler wrote:Child birth is one of the most difficult experiences a woman can possibly undergo. I'm not a mother, but a good part of my studies dealt with maternal and child morality. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Then the martyrs among my ummah would be very few. Being killed for the sake of Allaah is martyrdom, the plague is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, stomach disease is martyrdom, and if a woman dies during the post-partum period, her child will drag her to Paradise by his umbilical cord.” narrated by Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad with a saheeh isnaad. (al-Musnad, 3/489).

I heard that FGM is banned under the new government. However, I'm not entirely sure how they will impose such a ban when people (and sadly some women) are for it. Some girls are fortunate to be born to parents who do not believe in FGM or only believe in the sunnah version. Everything comes down to how well someone is educated and if they consider the future health of their daughters. Pride and loyalty to culture has blinded too many parents who place great value on social norms that are barbaric if scrutinized closely.
