Jamaal Ali Hussein Declared as the Official UCID

The youthful International Banker cum politician Jamal Ali Hussein is the official new flag bearer of the welfare and justice party (UCID) as of today during the first day of the party central committee convention hence ending the long time limbo that had cast shadow of doubt over who is going to be the party favorites in forthcoming presidential election that is expected to be held in last than a months’ time.

The central committee convention today saw the nomination of by a popular vote of politician Hon Jamal Ali Hussein as the official flag bearer of the parties ‘by most of the 144 delegates during the central committee convention which was held at Ambassador Hotel hence to the jubilation’s of thousands of supporters.

UCID Presidential Aspirant Hon Jamal Ali Hussein Accepted the party’s nomination “I accept the party’s decision to nominate me as the presidential candidate for Welfare and justice party (UCID) may ALLAH help me.While Hon. Abdirashid Hassan Matan was nominated as the new vice president of UCID.

Honorable Faisal Ali Warabe announced who had earlier announced that he was stepping down as the chairman of the party so as to paving the way for a youthful Jamal Ali Hussein, preside over the voting which saw the nomination of the party presidential aspirant ,vice president ,sectarery-general,third vice chairman and the fourth vice chairman of the party.

Hon Feisal Ali Waraabe accused the current government for introducing laws so as to manipulate the outcome of the upcoming elections as the controversial cab 14 of the electoral law, he went on to say the current government had strived hard to exclude UCID from the political Equation claiming he had hard evidence.

Mr. Ali Gurey, former spokesperson of UDUB, was among the dozens of notable senior party officials who were nominated today by parties’ delegates.

Hon Jamal termed Hon Feisal Ali Warabe a brave and also a wise man and that he will always be remembered as a person who spent his time in relentlessly serving the people of Somaliland no matter the cost, I again thank for giving him the opportunity to serve my people.

On many occasions, the party and its leader, Engineer Faisal Ali Warabe was a catalyst, mediator or instrumental in the political disputes and contributed a balancing actions and decisions, said Hon Jamal Ali Hussin.

The two sides had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding consisting of four points which automatically propel Jamal Ali Hussein as the flag bearer of UCID in the next presidential elections.

Hon Jamal Ali Hussin had been previously elected by UDUB as the future presidential candidate to the discontent of some party members, this caused the party to split into two camps and in turn resorting to insults been traded by the opposing factions in the media outlets.

With less than 4 weeks to go before the crucial municipal elections, UCID could not afford the candidacy of Jamaal status to be left in limbo.

UCID Party is among the three pioneering parties and succeeded in having 21 seats in the parliament as a result of the parliamentary election. More importantly, UCID Party succeeded in winning the chairperson of the Somaliland parliament and Abdirahman Iro, one of the founders of the party became the chairperson of the Somaliland parliament.

This was a huge success for members and supporters of UCID inside and outside the country. The party has already achieved tremendous victory in the local government elections whereby the only female in local government is from UCID party. On many occasions, the party and its leader, Engineer Faisal Ali Warabe was a catalyst, mediator or instrumental in the political disputes and contributed a balancing actions and decisions. For instance, UCID party contributed on the solution on the impasse after the presidential outcome in 2003.

This step was very important since, the other opposition party (Kulmiye) was not ready to concede defeat. Somalilanders still recall the significant statement of UCID party on that historical juncture.

On another occasion, the country remembers the crucial debate regarding the extension of term of the president when this term expired in mid-2008. It was UCID Party which is credited to the settlement of this important national issue.

UCID party campaigned for the registration of Somaliland citizens while other political parties were either skeptical or unwilling to its introduction and implementations. The foreign sponsors of voter registration system very appreciated the role of UCID party in this regard. The party and its leadership have undisputed record of campaigning for the recognition of Somaliland. They participated and lobbied in many international conferences, in North America, Europe and Africa.

UCID is engaged charitable institutions and programs by making provisions to the disadvantaged and needy. UCID grants sponsorship to a number of university students from different sectors of society especially from minority communities and women.

UCID party encouraged, motivated and inspired Somaliland intellectuals in the Diaspora to be active in political and social participation in their country.

UCID party embarked institutionalization of the party from the bottom. Even the international observers characterized UCID as the only political party with political structure and ideology in line with the modern western political parties. Because of the attraction of its program, UCID has attracted thousands of women and youth nationwide and they have already contributed to the achievements of the party.
