Somalia is on a new course, one where capable and hard working people are being put in positions of power to bring Somalia out of it's current situation. His excellency, the first Prime Minister of Somalia since the government of Maxamad Siyaad Barre, Prime Minister Saacid Shirdoon, is taking a bold and radical step in putting a woman in their highest position of Government in the history of Somalia. This is no easy task, and it shows a lot about the character of our new Prime Minister.

An educated, hardworking, mature, wife and mother is just what our generation of young girls in Somalia need, and what the people as a whole need. I want to congratulate you Deputy Prime Minister, and I want to wish you success.

Stay tuned, her name will be brought out with the rest of the ministers, but she will be an instant headline maker.

People should see the bigger picture instead of being preoccupied with trivial matters like whether a female is named or a male. Looks like the NGO government down south
is destined to fail.

I don't see what is so evident that it points to failure?

The new leadership have shown to be careful, composed, and working to establish a strong base to work on. The issue of a female deputy PM is only noteworthy because of the relative political climate. Now if this was some other country, no one would blink an eye. I assure you that the Deputy PM is more than qualified to fulfill her duties.

But on the upside, this reflects well for progress both internationally and nationally. Nationally it bolsters the representation that women deserve in holding key positions, and it gives a role model to our young girls who are often because of cultural reasons held back from their desires and potential. Internationally it bodes well with diplomates and key groups that can play vital roles in supporting our government.
