Ok here are the 2 books on somali animal tales

Post by X.Playa »

Ok for the sake of culture , now the first stories were collected around 1898 by some dedicated German , the first 1-75 pages deal with somali stories regarding people , the Somali text on the left side Vs German text on the right. from page 75-100 some again somali tales of animals and from 100 to 120 some more people tales , the rest of the first book is somali pharses and tutorials.

The second book was wriiten 1900 and it has much more folk tales and animal tales also many somali provebrs, This second book at least skip the 75 to 80 pages , its the bibile translated into somali .

let me guys know if you can recoginze some of the tales , let se if the somali oral memory was able to trasnmit these hundernds of years old tales.

no the book is full for long once , but you have to look at both books, specially the second book, there is a long story of the lion interviewing , the cheetah , hyeana , lepord, and a jackal, 2 or 3 version of that episod along. The funny parts goes like this

Lion : hey you cheetah you are weak what do you do when people caught you eating their stock?

Cheetah" You are right am weak , as soon as am caught i start scraching left and right.

Lion: what about you hyeana you are weakj and coward too what do you do?

Hyeana: well am weak nad a coward , noce am caught i pertend the people are joking with me so i start to laugh and giggle.

and so on.

Another one goes like this :

Lion: tell me all of you which among the pepole you steal their animals you like the most?

Jackal: in my case i like teenag girls, they sit another a tree , leave the sheep/goats all alone while she is fixing her hair and thats when i get my best chance

Naag afka carabta taqaan waa dhi.lo? :steviej:

yes i came accross that and its true, and the reason is simple since she is a somali nomad woman what else will make her learn Arabic to talk to coastal Arabs, (remebers Arabs always lived in the coast from Kismaayo to Zayla). Now perhabs al-shabaab needs to re-learn this proverb.

No just that proverb is one of the rare somali proverbs that are rememberred how it came about and the story behind it even to the person who utter it , there are few once like that survived the time. like "Dani-Waa-Seeto" by Ducaale Aftaag and "Dumar-Taad-Barataaba-B'an" by Guuleed Xaaji.

I heard few times how people were trapped under that mountain for century until the time of wadhaf. And when they came out they moved and cut through the land all the way to ethiopia.

Pushing back all those that inhabited the land.Image

I didn't expect that, but then again that is the oldest profession in the world, they must have seen what went down between some of their women and foreigners

Any idea who wrote that Somali? it is quite good.
