Berbera is a natural harbour, which is why it was used for the last century as the main port and then gradually turned into a deep sea port.
As for others there's a lagoon few kms east of berbera, the one abuukar always mentions (kor shoori)

Actually, Berbera was a major port long before the Abbasids. It existed in classical times and was a major trade depot for phoenicians, greeks, himyarites, Indians etc. In fact the name Berbera comes from the ancient Greek name for somalis "Barbaroi" and was named "Bilad al Barbar" by the Arabs.

I was actually asking about other places other than the obvious Berbera.

I don't know when somalis started to inhabit Somalia, but it may have been during the classical times i.e. any time between 6th century BCE and the 4th century CE. But I don't think we were there before that. Quite clearly the cave drawings of Laas Geel were painted by some other people who either died out or were incorporated/assimilated into the somali genepool. berbera was the first place somalis lived before conquering the central and southern regions.
