Nazist Eaglehawk enter henceforth..

Post by Somaliman50 »

So i'd like to get your views on the discussion regarding the Nuremberg trials of 1945/1946, more specifically the case of Hermann Göring. Now the basic background on this individual was that he, at some point in the 30s and 40s had practically oversaw the military expertise of Nazi Germany including the Luftwaffe (airforce), the SA (paramilitary) and the Gestapo (secret police) and eventually the Reichstag (parliament). In other words he was dangerously close to Hitler's supreme power.

Though i have never condoned the mockery of the Nuremberg trials and it's blatant double standards (it was not based on legal jurisdiction or a proper clear-cut charter which in todays world would make it a fraud and an illegal tribunal), i am very suprised at how Göring handled the situation.

This short clip is a snap of the cross examination that took place during the trials,

Disregarding the begining bit which speaks of his activities during the Wiemar republic, he makes a strong point that Hitler was his own leader and rarely took advice from his inner circle. On top of this, he fell out with Hitler towards the end of the War, notably when he was stripped of his position and placed under house arrest.

So the question which bears thought is, do you think Göring was correct to plead innocent in the trials? Bear in mind he was up against a make-shift tribunal owned by the Allies who were equipped with Jewish testimonies and forged Nazi documents, they were reeling against Nazism and ready to humiliate him at all costs. With this they labelled him with 4 counts of murder and tyranny and other charges. Göring, was known for his eloquent and high intelligent thinking and even his opponents in the court-sitting knew this, so don't you think he could have used this to have pleaded guilty and ended up fighting his case to recieve a lesser sentence instead of being sentenced to death by hanging which he utterly tried to avoid? I just think it was futile for him to go up against such odds (albeit resilient and soldier-esque).

This is open for all btw.

:wow: He spoke many a times of his innocent patriotism as a proud German but he could not be the voice of reason in a newly dominated Allied world.
