In an interview with the chairman of Somaliland central bank Cabdi Dirir Cabdi he said there is plans underway to change the currency of Sool and Sanaag entirely to Somaliland currency (although it is already used in places
like El Afweyn district, Ceerigaabo). In addition instead of Bosaso the local merchants of Sanaag and Sool will be encouraged to use Xiis and Maydh for docking their daily goods with lower taxes than Bosaso. There
will be more focus on development in the eastern regions aswell.


I support this scheme. Time to curb and disable Bosaso/Puntland economic influence in those two regions.

Some parts of Sool and Sanaag are using the old Somali shillings that is about to change for good soon.

I thought they already did this alongside with Toghdeer

It was region by region.First Oodweyne and Togdheer (accomplished) and now Sool and Sanaag. The biggest challenge in Sool and Sanaag however is finding an alternative use for the many merchants who have used
Bosaso for years.When they have nearby Maydh or Xiis both coastal areas in Sanaag with lower taxes functioning then there won't be a need to go to Bosaso for the most part. Self-sufficiency.

It'll be a difficult task. Not as smooth as in Burco.

I know. It is up to Somaliland to cut down the influence of Puntland economically in those regions, by first of all developing the eastern Somaliland regions. But if they keep ignoring those areas then the fools shouldn't
complain why some Somaliland merchants are using Puntland ports. I am glad they woke up from the deep sleep. It is about time.
