Indeed Samatar is a Somali legend & if we were a prosperous & a 'real' nation he would already have had his own monument erected in the capital city.

Only (there are many others but not as good as Samatar) Somali singer who can sing both in standard Somali & May-may fluently.

He was neighbors with my parents in Diinsoor when they were kids.

Talk about a small world.

He has already attained legend status...in my opinion his best years were mid to late 80s, in the late 70s he was up and coming but joining waaberi really elevated his status and he is still going.

Anarchist, probably my parents & oldest brothers were in Diinsoor at that time before my dad was transferred to Shabeelaha Hoose & my family moved there.

Our parents might have known one another, ey?

@Twist - You never know, sxb. We might recognize each other's names if we get down to it.

Soomaali oo dhan waaba dad yar oo is wada yaqaano, bliaash ayaa la isku heystaa habeen iyo maalin.

@Cumar - My parents were from Diinsoor and my father was a local official in the Shabelles, then in the Jubbas, which meant a lot of moving around.

Alxamdulilah, those experiences shaped me in to what I am today. We are stronger people if we embrace diversity and overlook our minor differences.

I hope you'll have a chance someday to visit these lands and experience life the way they have lived for centuries, inshallah.
