The Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools say that nikah entered into by a woman herself, without the permission of her wali, is invalid and void.

The imaam cannot be wali. Miyaad waalantey?
if the parental concern are valid one then the marriage is not valid and also has no happy ending.

only the male relatives can be wali,
father/ brother, uncle and so forth can be wali.
if anyone random person who says he is an imam can be a wali then whats the point of having a wali.

No actually
it depends on WHY they said no
if it is for ignorant cause like .. qabiil or caste ....... the girl can marry anyway
but if he is gaalo or weird sect ..they its okey for parents to say no
