What type of case is it for, if it is for something minor I would do it.

@Cumar - I won't know until next week. It's only the selection phase now and they'll pay $22/day.

Just don't have the time for it, not to mention that I don't want to be accountable for how someone's future turned out.

How does the jury system in the UK work?

My mother got it a few years ago and she threw it in the trash. Nothing happened

But, this is what you can do. Some dude many years ago was telling us in school how he was in a jury for a murder case and he was telling us the process and how they picked people and told others to go home. Go to the jury selection process. In order to get out, you must show a bias. They will ask you questions and in order to get out of it, be biased or non-neutral. You are racist towards Hispanics and Whites. You are a misogynist. You find people with beards scary. You like people with blonde hair over brunettes. These things will get your name crossed off.

You have been selected as a candidate. You are not part of the jury just yet. They want to only pick the neutral people. The folk that won't let their emotions get to them in a trial.

@Brobaganda - That's brilliant, man. :up: :lol:

I made the mistake of filling out the stupid county jury questionnaire last year thinking I was going to get in trouble if I just tossed it out.

@SelfD - Government is a bully, they pay so little because they know the can get away with it. Even employers & schools have no choice but to comply or they face legal action.

$22/day :ehh: free money is good my friend even if it is small, I understand if your busy though.
Personally I wouldn't want to do a serious case like murder/rape etc

In the UK their not as strict in choosing jurors, to be eligible you need to be a voter over 18 however a few of the reasons you can be exempt from duty is:

-they have already booked and paid for an important family event such as a wedding or a holiday
-they have urgent work commitments which, if not completed on time, would have a detrimental effect to their business

pretty cool right

@Tuushi - And the biggest disrespect of all is that you won't even get paid for another 3-6 weeks after jury duty (check sent in the mail).

Biased, crazy, knowing the person, I like all these ideas so far.

Thanks, everyone!

@Cumar - Damn, bro. I thought we were fucked, you guys don't have it any easier.

How many jurors usually serve on a case? Is it 12 like here and who passes down the terms once the jury reaches the verdict?

They do. The defendant has the right choose if they want to be tried with just a judge or with a jury. ;) dont register to vote and they wont mail you

Yeah.Canada does have civilian jury duty.

Anarchist. The best excuse so far that i have seen worked on first hour is a plane ticket.Hard to pull that one off tho esp. if the trial date isnt secure.
