Cabudwaq gets connected weekly flights to Dubai and Nairobi.

Gaalkacyo is no longer the only town in central Somalia with permenant schedule of flights. Caabudwaaq now has weekly flights connecting it to Nairobi and Dubai via Mogadishu and Hargeisa.

It is a town with a large international diaspora so this explains how fast it has been upgraded from zero air travel destination to an important one (relatively obviously by Somalia standards).

It is a good progress - it is advertised here in Moga and it is not only abudwaq. Cadado, Dhusamareb and Hobyo are also mentioned in the ad.

I think the article made a mistake, Hargeisa airport is under renovation - for the last year or so - so they probably meant Berbera. It's good for business that more airports are opening up.

p.s. when do commercial flights begin in kismayo airport. I think that, after MGQ, kismayo and berbera airports have the most potential.

There are no flights between MGQ and Hargeisa so m just baffled. All flights from MGQ to Somaliland land at Berbera. Even putting Politics aside this doesn't make sense.

Hargeisa airport isn't being used now due to renovations. All flights originally from and to Hargeisa have been landing in Berbera for now. Addis-Hargeisa has turned into Addis-Berbera with Ethiopian Airlines, for instance. This isn't the norm. Last I remember, there were daily flights between HGA and MGQ just two years ago.

^^^^ Which is why I said flights to Hargeisa don't make sense at all plus if and when Hargeisa airport becomes functional I expect Berbera Airport to be abandoned by most Airlines because almost all the passengers heading to Somaliland have Hargeisa as their final destination.
