It is a fact that the myth of women having no sex drive is a universal attitude that is born out of the idea of women as property, an idea that is rampant throughout history in all parts of the world. If someone is a piece of property, why would they have their own desires? Why would their owners (husbands) be expected to fulfill or even recognize the desires of something that they own? I think that this is changing that women can be sexual, but not in a positive way. Sexual women are still pictured as the playthings of men (see Britney Spears, Paris Hilton etc, etc.) instead of autonomous decision makers in controlling their own sexuality. As women, society teaches them to squelch their desires, to be coy and proper, to deny any role as a sexual being. Men are encouraged to display their sexuality, to be real men. So the myth keeps being perpetuated that women have no sex drive.
In my view, Allah has made women sexual and sensual beings. I'm very curious as to why women are so accepting of the stereotypes of men and women. For whatever the reason, Allah has made women more adept in this respect than men. There's a hadith that says that Allah made sexual desire in ten parts and gave nine to women. I've never seen anything in the Quran or the Prophet's Sunnah to contradict that. So, why be shy about it? Allah made women that way!
Culturally many Somali men don't care for this and our history is full of efforts by men to limit women's sexuality, sometimes really horrid as with FGM, I feel so sad for them for though they certainly were part of some man's fantasy, their own satisfaction must have been badly lacking. A Female's sex drive is something that is subject to interpretation. But when you consider things like female genital mutilation it becomes more than a joke.
What is your viewpoint, especially the chicks? Does circumiscission lower one's sex-drive?
