I think I wrote about Dr. Huessein Abdikadir Kassim before but anyone who interested in learning one or two about Somali politicians and diplomats should look at this man. For years, he was the de facto leader in Somalia's foreign policy even though he was the minister of water and minerals. Here in this discussion, he is schooling Henry Kissinger who seems very surprised by the will and political skills of Somalis:

Notice how Siyad Barre is grooming his cousin to represent the nation when he lacks the skills and the know-how.
Does anyone has or seen any pics of the great diplomat? I think but I am not sure; the Guled Kassim guy is his son. FAH would know about this.

The greatest Somali diplomat is popularly considered Dr Mohamed Saciid Samatar Gacaliye. He went to universityn Italy in 40's becoming one of the most well known Italian students of his time. He became the first head of the Somali language program in Radio Rome while student.
During the trusteeship government he was the Somali ambassador to Italy. Upon independence he was named Somali ambassador to the European Economic Community in Brussels, then to Italy being trusted with Somalia's most important forign post, then to the French government representing Somalia during Djibouti independence. After Ogaden War he was named State Minister of the Somali Government in charge of Western relations designed to bring Somalia to Western orbit.

Guhaad,
It would have to be Abdullahi Isse Maxamud, father of Somalia. He was a skilled diplomat who successfully advocated for Somalia's independence from Italy. He was also an excellent Foreign Minister.
The worst would be Buluqbuluq, who embarrassed the nation at the OAU talks. What a fumble !
I would also throw in Maxamed Warsame Kimiko, who helped cement ties with Chairman Mao's China. He also correctly predicted that Barre wanted to go to war with Ethiopia as early as 1976 and had begged him not to go to war without exhausting diplomatic routes. He flew to Addis Ababa and met with the head of the Derg who also knew Somalia was on a war footing but for the first time admitted that they Ethiopia were willing to engage in talks over the Ogaden as disputed territory and were not ready for any war.

Agent of Chaos,
Abdullahi Isse Maxamud was the most selfless leader in Somali history. He sacrificed so much and tolerated a lot of injustices. He brought Somalia to independence, was cheated by his opponents to disqualify him from running for President, was jailed for four years by Maxamed Siyaad Barre, the very man who begged his mother to ask Abdullahi isse to ensure he did not get fired from the police service, and lastly died in exile after being denied a new Passport by the MSB regime. Now imagine, after all you have done to be denied a passport by the very Republic you fought to bring into existence ?
