Ten Councillors Boycott Hargeisa Mayor Election

Ten newly elected councillors have this morning boycotted the election of the new mayor of Hargeisa, Yusuf Warsame Saeed and his new deputy Abdiasis Agaweyne.

The ten councillors, all the Xaqsoor councillors, all the Ummada councillors, two councillors from Wadani and one from UCID cited political interference from the Kulmiye led administration of President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud "Silaanyo" for their boycott of the election.


Contacted by phone, the councillors have advised the media that they will be presenting their reasons and arguments in a press conference in the near future.


The absence of ten councillors, including all from two organisations, casts a shadow on the election of the new mayor.
