New Year Sermon

Post by union »

Brothers and Sisters,

Glory to the God who inspired the birth of this New Year and who granted us all continued life. We thank him for having proved the Mayan apocalypse a pagan lie. We beseech him for his continued favor and grace.

This previous year has been one full of blessing for some and bitter damnation for others. All across the Middle East, new democracies have sprouted from a land notorious for its many ruthless autocratic life-time leaders. These new democracies are fragile, and they are imperfect, but brothers and sisters we must continue to support these nations in their righteous accession to freedom. We must also beware, and steadfast against, the retrogressive elements who seek to usurp the revolutionary momentum of the Arab Spring to benefit their discrepant agendas.

In our homeland Somalia, there has been much progress to shed its much deserved reputation as the world’s shittiest country. The transitional mandate has come to an end and a new government, streamlined and permanent, has assumed the leadership of the Somali nation. The administration of President Hassan Sheik Mohamoud, along with its international partners, must work honestly and tirelessly toward the mission of rebuilding Somalia’s central government and restoring full sovereignty over the entire country. The Somali people, in the interest of restoring their own honor and dignity on the international stage, must resolve to shed the foolish tribal mentalities that have destroyed them. For once, let “compromise” and “peaceful co-existence” enter the Somali psyche.

The nations of the world continue to advance technologically and economically. Millions have escaped from the shackles of poverty this past year alone. Globalization is seeing the rise of a new “global middle class”, and new emerging economies are assuming prominent positions in the world marketplace. We are increasingly becoming interconnected and dependent on one another, and the ignorance and prejudice of old has no place in this new world. We thank God for having liquidated Osama Bin Laden.

There’s still a lot of shit wrong with the world today. A lot of stuff we cannot solve right away. Conflicts that will go on, people who will starve, patients that will die of incurable diseases, economies that will go under, children who will fail standardized tests and be doomed to a life of minimum wage jobs, etc. I know all this is a bit overwhelming, but with a little prayer and trust in the power of Jesus Christ

I don't think you're allowed to say shit during a sermon.
