regular job is not doing it for me. i can't save enough money and i am tired of it.

they told me to go to college and i will make a lot of money. bulshit! i went to college and i got a degree but nothing is working the way i imagined!

having experience is more important than having a college degree, i finally found out. i wish i worked all those years that i spent in college. now everybody is a head of me in terms of financial stability. i know some guys who never went to college and now have big businesses in africa and making tons of money. they drove taxis and saved enough money and went back to africa and opened up businesses. they are now making more money than f....ng PHD holders in america.

it is time for me to think outside the box. africa's economy is booming while america and europe's is slowing down for good.

i recently went to kenya and i was surprised by how much money some people were making. this dude i know has a bachelor degree from an indian university and he works for barclays bank in nairobi and you can't imagine how much he's making. absolutely crazy!

they said "it is never too late" but i think i am too late catching up with my peers. lakin wixii ku qoran ayaa lahelaa.

but this time, with allah's help, i am determined to start investing in africa. the coming years, insha allah, i will work hard, decrease my spending significantly, and save enough money to start investing.

besides working towards akhira, my only goal for the coming years will be raising capital. that's it insha allah.

Some practical tips:

-If you can spare 18-24 months, go knock out an AS or AAS program in healthcare tech or engineering tech. You'll be making anywhere from 50k-70k, starting off, and can easily approach the 100k mark with sufficient OT, in your 1st year fresh out. And all this takes is 2 years or less. From a community college. Zero debt. Plenty of scholarships. Technical skills that you can take with you anywhere.

- If you don't want to go back to school, start doing something that will put money in your pockets immediately: like driving a cab.

- Buy and read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Kiyosaki.

- Save. Save. Save. And then Save some more.

- Start a business, any business, preferably something with a low barrier to entry and low start-up costs. If it succeeds great, if it fails, even better. The key is to gain entrepreneurial skills and an entrepreneurial mindset that will help you locate and exploit business opportunities when you go back to Kenya. Without it, you'll be toast.

Combine those two points and you're set. You won't get "rich", but you'll live comfortably.


Not sure where you are barakaboy, but usually the best technical programs are 3~ year diplomas that offer you internships as part of the course work. The program I'm currently doing offers a 6 week internship, but the one I'm looking to do offers a 10 month internship. Coming out makin 70k. There are also plenty programs that offer co-op placements.

Some folks can sell themselves well, being hired with a degree into a field completely unrelated to what they've studied. More power to em. Unfortunately for the rest of us, sales aren't our forte. Made the same mistake myself. Skilled knowledge man. Go for it. Don't waste time.

OR, what you can do is work for free. Look for internships. Offer yourself as an 8 week intern to top employers in your field. It doesn't pay, but it will put something on your resume. I hear. I never got that far. This is assuming you're working at a place that you feel is below what you expected.
