Hassan's representatives in IGAD

Post by Talo alle udaa »

The President’s men in Kismayo

After two weeks of deadlock, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was finally able to appoint the delegates to sit on the technical committee of the InterGovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) taking part in the Kismayo talks on the administration of this region (see here). This presidential delegation is led by Jamal Barrow (Bantu), an eminent member of Hassan Sheikh’s office and his personal friend since they worked together at the Simad private university in the early 2000s. Barrow is a member of Hassan Sheikh’s Peace and Development Party (PDP) and is also a member of the Damul Jadid Islamic group. This team’s other member is Abdi Aden (Darod/Marehan), advisor to Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon. The designation of these two men comes after President Hassan Sheikh’s previous delegation was expelled from Kismayo aiport in early November. This was led by Colonel Mohamed Roble Gobale, a former commander of the Juba Valley Alliance, one of the armed militias which fought for control of Kismayo during the civil war.
The above is according to a french owned news letter who claim to have diplomatic links. for what it's worth.

More from the The Indian Ocean News Letter
Delicate birth of Jubaland

Kenya and Ethiopia are still backing the plan to create a regional State of Jubaland around Kismayo. They would appear to have finally come to terms with the idea of a combined approach.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has backtracked a little on his original idea of setting up an administration in Kismayo controlled by Mogadishu and is now trying to bring the regional players to settle the issue via a tripartite negotiation. He would appear to have convinced the Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn when he visited Addis Ababa at the end of November, but is not likely to fare so well with the Kenyan authorities, which he is to meet soon in Nairobi. The Somalian federal government wants a transition authority to be rapidly appointed in Kismayo to run Jubaland until its inhabitants elect their own administration.

Talks are currently under way between the representatives of various clans and a technical committee consisting of delegates from the InterGovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Somalian federal government (see here).

The Ogaden are represented by Mohamed Ahmed Islam Madobe and Mohamed Abdi Gandhi, while the Ethiopian backed Marehan from the Gedo region are represented by General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartag and the Harti (Majerteen, Dhulbahante and Warsangeli) by General Mohamed Warsame Farah Darwish, a former director of intelligence services under the government of Abdullahi Yusuf.

IGAD also invited some minority clans, like the Biyamal (Dir) and the Galjaal (Hawiye), but the Darod are in the dominant position at the negotiating table. The autonomous administration of Puntland, which supports the creation of an autonomous State of Jubaland, also wants its say on representing the Harti. So far, no outcome appears to be in sight, as neither of the two favourites to run Jubaland, Madobe and Gandhi, have managed to impose their will.

:comeon: Hassan Culusow representative are irrelevant, this is a local affair and not one to be dictated by a Hawiye run government, officials whom have all been proven to have a bias tendency toward the Darood excluding the Ilkoyar. If he wants to help he can start by telling his cousins in Muqdisho to immediately cease the illegal occupation of all non-Hawiye properties in the nations capital.

^Bless her heart but Dangirl has already managed to put the Ilkoyar on blast. You might want to scroll back up and see it for yourself. Afweyn indeed must be rolling in his grave.

As for the Hawiye entity in Jubaland, no minority will be denied their minority rights. I have faith in the the two favourites to run Jubaland, Madobe and Gandhi, once they managed to impose their will.

No clan can impose its will on others,it is a known fact,If you seriously think a MJ born in Bari has more rights to jubbaland then a hawiye born in Mogadishu then you are seriously deluded.
besides hawiye has nothing to worry about,we are the people of the land and rightfully ours,we neither seek nor attempt to gain approval on this issue from any one Be it Kenya,Ethiopia or IGad.Our allies in the region will play a key leading role in the region plus the Hawiye allies rahanweyn will also play active role militarily, economically and socially in the region while hawiye takes his lions share. This is not 1960s era anymore, xabad kulul baa dabada layska qalin ilaa bosaso layskugu yimaado.
