In some sense the Somali civil war was a blessing; This s why
This is my theory..if Somalia remained it wouldve went through political exchanges, such that Siad Barre would've died of old age, then his son would've taken over like all we have witnessed in the parallel years since Siad's death. One can use a lot of African countries as a model to draw the likelihood of Somalia's path if there was no civil war. Surely we know that the political order changed after the collapse of the Soviet Union. A lot of African dictators were forced to allow multi-parties. These African dictators obliged by manipulating this concept of multi-parties in their countries by creating ghost parties that were actually run by themselves. That would've been the same case for Somalia. We would've been under Meles Zenawi, Paul Piya(cameroon), Gulleh(djibouti) type of "democracy".
What would the education level would've been?
In 1990 Somalia's literacy rate was around 30%. There were just handful universities and it wouldve only have grown just few more universities. Few citizens of Somalia would've gained sophisticated education from prestigious schools of the west as opposed to current reality. Education would've been attained by the ruling class's clan. Arabic would've been the dominant language thus making us unprepared for the globalization of the world.
What would the Economy would'e been like?
It wouldve had command economy like that of Ethiopia today. The telecommunication of the country would've been in the hands of the government of the day. Why would they do this you might ask, because the government would be fearful of the advent of the internet and mobile phones. They would've been afraid of these tools to be used in an uprising like that of Egypt. Free market economy would've been limited. If any existed it would've been under the control of the ruling clan/tribesmen like that of Tunisia. Son-in-laws would be the only importers of necessary foods and electronis. All the car dealership would've been owned by the son of the leader. This wouldve led to the stunted economical growth. We wouldve had lack of exposure to the world bc the Somali passport wouldve been limited.
Why was the civil was a blessing in disguise
What has the civil war brought us. We got atleast 200k respected college' educated and not only educated with an inferior African universities but with the ultra-state of the art universities of the industraliazed nations. On top of that we would've had atleast another 1.1 million literate folks in the diapora. Evidently even Islaamaha can read atleast and understand the most useful languages of this modern times English, French,Swedish, Dutch, Norwegian and etc. We got highly educated young people who are ready to inject new economical ideas to the their ancesterial homelands. In this group of Western educated youth we have the next Fb-like inventor. we got the next environmentalist crusador and the next business mogul. With our plethora of respected passports we can travel througout the world to bring new products to the country.
Therefore...I ask that u compare and contrast.. Was the civil war a blessing in disguise or not?

Somaliland is not a qabiil state, so you can exclude that from your claims.STARKAST wrote:The shame alone - something somalis have forgotton was not worth the civil war

but the loss and negative things far worse than positive. oval roll not worth, in my opinion.

You are right especially the part if the gov was still around somalis in somalia wouldn't have too much freedom since there is no gov to regulate anything, however, imagine how you are relaxed now and you have your life in your hands and sudenly a guy by the name "fulan fulan" takes out the gov and sends his armies of dogs after you, dil, dhac, kufsi,(why?) and takes out everything, sudenly you are not going to work because there is non, no freedom because you are not part of his qabiil, at night women being raped screaming, "ALLA IGA QABTA", the heart atack among the elders increasing and dying by the number, kaos after kaos, your somali faces is all over the world news as the starving nation, booowe i wish the civil war never hapened,,,,,i like your view though, the points you raised are true and positive,,,,,,,

Claims ? These are facts, the majority of Somalia agree and most countries around us + the west agree.
If you followed the the Qur'an you'd agree with me.
Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) referring to nationalism, racism and patriotism said:
“Leave it, it is rotten” (Bukhari,Muslim)
“The Muslims are like a body, if one part of the body hurts, the rest of the body will also suffer."
Like or not - Somali's and Somalia is rotten divided just as many Arab countries are also but not as much.

Somaliland is far from a qabiil state and the notion we're discussing have nothing to do with religion. If we would adhere to your way of thinking, it simply would mean that the non muslim Somalis have no right to claim Somali territory as their homeland. Somalis need a homeland and this issue concerns the muslim Somalis and non muslim Somalis and the thing thats dividing Somalis are not patriotism or nationalism because that would unite them or atleast make them understand whats best for them. Its qabiil thats dividing us and listen carefully sxb, Arabs brought qabiil to Somali territory.

If you look hard enough or with the right set of eyes you will always be able to find a silver lining in seemingly tragic events.
Either way though it was inevitable. Live by the gun, die by the gun. Dictatorships are a breeding ground for violent uprisings.

hyper@looooooooooooooooooooool
hyper is the most optimistic person. Gosh, he does have a point though-- every negative thing has a 'positive' tint in it.

what I meant it bro, is everything has a reason, God knows best. everything has consequences and asbaab (reasons behind). do you remember one thing in your life you thought it was bad but when you look back opened your eyes and khair ko aha, not in that moment but years after. so believe Allah's wisdom behind everything.
some times worse thing could happen to innocent people, but God doesnt do wrong people, that thing may help the victim or shape the lives of people around.
you never know.
