The day the Somali democratic republic was officially ousted from Mogadishu.

USC.
Somali civilian show their support to a group of Somali United Congress (USC) rebels, armed on a tank, January 30, 1991 in Mogadishu four days after the
government in Mogadishu was dismantled in 1991 January 26, Somalia. Rebel troops of the Somali United Congress (USC) took control of Mogadishu,
after a three week long war with Government troops.
The sign reads "Now we got independence since we overthrow dictator long live USC"

SNM.
Meanwhile, SNM forces have pushed the front towards the east by taking Odweina on February 15 and Ainabo, 120 km east of Burao on the road by Mogadishu,
at the end of the month. They claimed to have killed over 1,000 SNA soldiers in 1988. The SNM liberated Ceerigaabo also in 1989.
The Somali National Movement (SNM) gained control of the north, while in the capital of Mogadishu and most of southern Somalia, the United Somali
Congress achieved control.

I arrived in Mogadishu on May 25, 1988 from the U.S. And on May 27th the SNM captured to great city of Burco. On May 28th the Faqaash started confiscating Toyota Land Cruisers on Maka Al Makarama in Xamar. I knew on that day it was over for the Siad Barre regime. I left Mogadishu on June 26. I was going back to the States. I flew on Kenya Airways to Nairobi. While I was still at the Mogadishu Airport on June 26, the P.A announces the Somali Airlines flight to Berbera was canceled. I said to myself yes the SNM have invaded Berbera. AUN to all the great people who lost the lives in the liberation of our lands from the dirty Faqaash.

Hargaysaay That was unfortunate, but liberty over tyranny  , in that respect 26 January deserves a spot in the history.
