Genuine question - Why do you want Somaliland to separate?
Newb here.
Can someone tell me why Somalilanders want Somaliland to separate? What is the root of this sentiment and how will it benefit Somalilanders/Somalis?

Hasn't Somaliland already de facto separated from the rest of Somalia for 22-23 years now? I would like to see a clan-free discussion on why Somaliland hasn't been recognized as a separate country yet, when it basically is.

I see you carry the Somaliland flag, why do you think Somaliland hasn't been recognized as a separate country yet, when it basically is?

Look at what's going on and has been going in southern Somalia for the last 2 decades. Why would any sane human being want to share a country with those people?

So strange that this post is now getting replies. I think it was one of the first posts I made.

Previously, I believed that unity would make us stronger rather than separating. But now I think that if any portion of the population wants to separate but they are unable to, it will only lead to more division within the nation which is never good. So I'm indifferent.FarhanYare wrote:cushetic,

Because the cancerous union destroyed the lives of the people of both Somalia and Somaliland
Because Somaliland is better off alone and can develop much better on its own
Because i do not like to share a country with walanweyns i wish them all the best luck but xuduud ba naga dhexeysa
Because historically traditionally politically, we are far apart eventhough we share common linguistic similarities.
Because i also do not like Ugandans and the religious zealots down south+the italian mafia culture
Because the agreement was 2 have all 5 if all the other 3 wish not to be part of it than certainly there is nothing that stops us from being separate.

I once came across a video maybe 5-6 years ago with Edna Adan giving a tour of her hospital. She stopped at one patient and was explaining to the camera/journalist that the patient needs a specialist doctor from outside of the country .They were struggling in finding a specialist willing to come Somaliland because people assume its Somalia.
I think recognition could save lives and improve the lives of people. Without recognition there are less opportunities in Somaliland. Less investments, less economic growth, less development. Etc

Re: Genuine question - Why do you want Somaliland to separat
It's very short-sighted and naive to believe that Somalis can be united under flag given current circumstances that we're in. It's also very ignorant to believe that Somaliland is being un-Somali, or what some people like to call Somalilanders, Somalidiid because they want to separate from Somalia. Basically, the reason why I, and the rest of Somalilanders want to separate from Somalia is because of the corrupt and nepotistic nature of the South. When Somaliland came to Somalia with the Somali flag and the hopes of making a greater Somalia in 1960, they were given in return, nothing. All the power went to the South, even army commanders and generals that were ruling the North were southerners themselves. An example of this corrupt nature would be the infamous elections in the 1960s where a tiny village in the South called Wanlaweyn had more votes than all of Waqooyi Galbeed (most populated region in the North). And this was in the 60s, where Somalis credited themselves as being a democratic nation, imagine today
. And now that the Somalia has become the posterchild for poverty, civil war, and famine, very few companies would dare to step foot in Somaliland because it's lumped together with the rest of Somalia.
In ideal world, all Somalis from Djibouti to North-Eastern Kenya would be united and we'd be kicking ass. But we're in the reality, and the reality is that until Somalia gets its act together and its politicians stop behaving in this mafioso mentality(which I highly doubt will happen in my lifetime), then Somaliland is here to stay and insha'Allah Somaliland will prosper with or without recognition.
