Aw-Libaax is going to become the first President of Jubbaland. He has been the backbone of the Jubbaland conference, has respected from IGAD and internationak community as one of the 5 signatories to the Roadmap, has the back of all of Gedo, the Ahlu Sunnah people, and even Kamboni has started to give him deference as a man beyond everyone else's stature.

It will open February 23...with 500 reps based on region and district. They will ratify the constitution, choose the President who will build the Jubbaland government. The government is expected to be there.

Farmaajo was too honest. I met with his campaign staffer who said even the staff was torn about advising him to pay bribes when everyone else was. The last election showed Hawiye have no morals or scruples since they were more willing to pay bribes and most Somali parliamentarians got into their positions paying bribes themselves. Look at that Cosoble guy...no person in the world had heard about him before election results yet he came 4th with his set of bribees. The entire strategy was to get past first round and anyone who did would defet Sheikh Sharif.

But beyond that I am glad Farmaajo nor a Darod had become president...Jubbaland wuld not have been built with a Daror president. Neither would the Darod have found the snse to unite but it would open the Jubbaland process to all Somalis especially Hawiye to comment and interfere and the President would have to appease not trying to make it seem like he was tribalist especially Farmaajo I couldn't imagine the legitimacy of a Darod Jubbaland forming under him. But today it is the Darod who are united against the "other" and united by the circumstance. They had to lose that election to find themselves in the long term stratety of being the most empowered group in the Federal political dispensation which will govern Somalia fom now on.

No, you misunderstood. There would have been million topics openee. There would have been million parties. His name would have been spread from the four corners of the earth. BUT in hindsight (when we look back in time) he would not have been the best president under which Jubbaland would form.

There are two types of leaders to watch out for; the aggressor and the appeaser. They are both bad for their people. Faroole is an aggressor Farmaajo was an appeaser. If Faroole stepped down in Puntland today, Puntland would have new power and influence worthy of its state. Similarly Farmaajo woule have sole too much of his clan's interests for the interest of what he thought would be reconciliation.
