Studying Methods

Post by Rabshoole »

What are some methods that help you concentrate and prepare for exams, tests, midterms, finals etc..
-
My personal favorite is using the powerpoint slides for all my business related courses, helps me memorize alot faster than using the old fashioned note cards that gets misplaced or easily torn.

 Might sound funny but if i need to memorise chunks of work i just break things down into one letter each or a code word, so then a handful of codewords/letters represent entire essay points.

Old fashioned reading and making notes on each chapter of each book I might need. Read related articles/chapters after each other and never study for different subjects in the same revision session. Order the notes afterwards and double check they make sense. Boring but best for me. I hate making powerpoint slides but its great for languages and business, stuff with rules.

Lillaahiya, some how I find that hard to believe, you come off as a bright chica, not your usual saaqid :ducktales:

Gedogurl, old fashion way of doing things is time consuming nowadays, especially with a swamped work and skool schedule, but gets you very promising results I suppose, I get bored easily reading constantly and taking notes, besides it ain't my thing, I'd rather collectively record lectures and listen to all of them couple days before a test and it works just as effective. :whew:

 how do you remember which is what if you got them coded or in one letter, IDK how you do it bro. comes off more complex than doing it the right way.

Remember repetition is the mother of retention. Go over things multiple times on different occasions.

I would also recommend "writing" instead of just reading. The act of writing itself helps you remember things.
Reading alone i think is too passive.

No matter what you use, you will still have to put in the same amount of time.

The best way to study is this: It work for me.. Break it down into timing..

The Rule 30:15:20:10:20
each chapter read 30 minute straight forward. 15 minute break; going online and discussing politics whatever. Then 20 minute straight reading or doing your home work. Then 10 minute break. Then 20 minute straight forward. If you did not done the home work or the reading yet. Start over the rule again. I hope I help you out...

doing past exam papers only helps you familiarise with exam questions so that when you are sitting your final exam you find yourself able to cope a bit better, lakiin in the final exam you only get 1 or 2 questions which was included in the past papers so basically waa waste of time. I usually just make up my list of questions extracting from the lecture notes am reading.
