I'm not very good at Somali but I think I've got the gist of what you said. I agree that we should respect our elders but many of us grew up in the diaspora, outside of Somalia and many of us know Somali to various degrees. There's some sub-sections on this site where they speak Somali more but this part is usually English. Some people here also can be a bit snarky so I'm sorry if someone's offended you.Egypt wrote:Websitekaan ciyaalka iyo odayaasha edab maka daxeeysa?

I was just curious because the conversations on this forum sometimes get to a level they shouldn't be at.CushiticReflections wrote:I'm not very good at Somali but I think I've got the gist of what you said. I can't say I'm too surprised because even Somalis I've met in real life can be similar to the ones on here. Maybe it's unreasonable to say this, but I think there's some connection about acting or speaking cruelly and the Somali culture. In reading and hearing popular Somali tales and folk stories, there seems to be a consistent pattern between the "hero" having one or more of these characteristics: selfishness, cleverness, wit, lack of morals, cunning, dishonesty, insincerity, among other traits. The hero is often using his intelligence and wit to trick others into giving him something that is not his or in order to gain something. Meanwhile, the "losers" of these tales are often: stupid, peace-loving, docile, strong but slow, and basically the exact opposite of the typical hero. Even if one sees how Somalis see others, many tend to see those who are less kind, less honest, inconsiderate, and somewhat uncaring or harsh more favourably. I don't think we need to treat others with patronizing politeness and of course there are Somalis who are different from this but it is somewhat disheartening when there are such prevalent views within the culture.Egypt wrote:I was just curious because the conversations on this forum sometimes get to a level they shouldn't be at.CushiticReflections wrote:I'm not very good at Somali but I think I've got the gist of what you said. You have the behavioural analysis on the spot. I wonder how the future culture would be?CushiticReflections wrote: I was just curious because the conversations on this forum sometimes get to a level they shouldn't be at.
